New Shortnose gar

I would seperate it .
When you dont know where to go with him make a barbecue.(joke)
When you want to have him alone in your tank and you dont care about the other fish
let him do his thing.
 
sorry to here the bad news,but that is to be expected with a gator gar,try to keep him well feed and do not feed live only makes them more aggressive,some times they shred fish and then leave them alone but if you have any thing that you really like I would move it before he ruins it,Mine killed four narrow bar SD and two wide bar SD and a true parrot fish and ate my eight inch Manoguense I tried adding 9 inch red Devil and he is now shredded but the gator stopped going after him that much.I would take it back to were you got because its not the fish they said it was,but I think the short nose gar are still aggressive and might be a problem.If I would do it again I would stick with Florida or spotted gar.good luck hope you work it out,mine I thought was 28 inches but it really was 33 because I thought the tank was4 inches wide when it is actually 28 Inches
 
I think i will sel my other fish and just focus on the true monsters. I also have two rtc and i was planning on keeping them and selling my other fish when the rtc started to get bigger. So i just have to get rid of the rest a bit earlier than expected. I also have a feather back, spoted gar and a silver arowana growing up in a different tank. I think they should get big enough to live with the gar for a a while

just be prepared that once all the fish are out of there he will not let you add anything else so see what does not get shredded and keep it or you will have one really large tank with not a lot of fish.I have a spiney Gulf soft shell turtle in with it and it seems to be doing ok and a large red tail guaramie and a two foot arow that is getting nipped here and there but the scales always grow back.
 
I would give it away .
In my opinion it makes no sense only to have one Fish in such a big tank
A few years later you have to do anything because he is growing out of your tank.
You have so much space for a nice community tank.
 
Adding fish to the tank should not be a problem as long as the gar is distracted, or add the fish using a bucket or container so there is not a lot of disturbance. TLkmDN has 2 gator gar with lots of other fish in his pond without issue, so you should be fine.
