I got my fire eel to stop burying him/herself when I added a pvc tube for a hidey hole. You might try that.

nah they are out and about 50% of the time and have plenty of hidy holes, not for me pvc in the tak tbh... i have plenty of fish to look at, anyhow its fun to find them!
