E_americanus;3510475; said:conner fish will be comparable in size to yours in most cases as they are of the same batch...we are continuing along with the same groups in the experiment. some are bigger, some are smaller.
fish will be no more than the same price they were offered for earlier (may try to ship more before weather gets really cold in order to defray shipping/supply expenses as well). will keep you all posted on the details, but i'll hopefully have a post together by the end of this week--

PS-- conner, i will email you reGARding some of the details of our last order in the near future.

E_americanus;3512411; said:WOW he is growing quite well! he's bigger than any of his siblings in the experiment, but that is to be expected since captive feeding tends to lean more toward 'powerfeeding' compared to what they are naturally doing in the wild or what we are trying to simulate. he's about on par with the Louisiana population spotted gars we have, which are 3 weeks older than our MI gars.
i would guess he will hold on to the speckled pattern if he has it now, it's amazing variation as we have seen speckled bellies in adults as well as gold bellies, which some of our juveniles are showing now as well...some have a combination of the two. thanks for posting the updates--

PS-- what is his feeding schedule and tank temperature?
Conner;3512435; said:Glad to hear I'm doing well with him.
His feeding schedule used to be that I just dumped in 40-50 platies or rosies, and replenished them whenever they ran out (usually every 4 days or so). To qualify that statement a little, he's also sharing the tank with two pike cichlids, one of which is a little hog, so I'd guess he was getting between 1/2 and 2/3 of those feeders. Now that he's getting bigger, I'm alternating between rosies and comets. I'm also leaving the tank empty of feeders for 1-2 days out of about 10. I'll try to keep track of how much he eats over the next week or two so I can give you an idea of what he eats per day. I haven't been keeping real close track of that, but I've been pretty busy.
The tank temperature is 79F right now. The tank is right next to a window we keep open quite often, so recently its been dropping in temp at night. Probably the lowest it gets is about 75-76F at night, and rising back up to 79F during the day.
