New Stingray discovered, w/pics!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sometimes new discoveries are already in the hobby (e.g. that new slate leaf fish) but like JD7.62 I doubt anyone has them in a home aquarium just because of where they are from.

They seem very henlei-like to me. Maybe this could be the only 'legal' black ray to export!

More motoro looking then Black ray there not really even black, Nice ray not sure if anyone even exports from this country.

Nice find Davo, the stock pic has some deathcurl issues. LOL

In regards to them looking like a motoro, I think the base colour looks way darker and the borders of the spots are really thick and black in comparison, and the spots themselves look redder then most of the motoro variants. But I'll agree looks more similar to a motoro than black rays, especially to leos. I think I'd prefer these to a motoro though if the contrast is similar when they are alive.

looks motoro morph to me as well....

Great Info davo!

The current trend
of using the phylogenetic species concept should improve
the overall taxonomic picture of the Potamotrygonidae, especially
upon the revision of taxa such as P. motoro and P.
orbinyi which, according to their cited geographic distribution,
clearly represent species complexes and not single species.

Do I understand this correct, the rays we call motoro may be many different species? And if we breed with motoro from different locations these could be different species and the pups are hybrids.
