New tank 84x36x24 ... Time for a Stand build!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Mag drive 24 pump. For added sound improvement, I would place it on a piece of foam rubber in the sump. They are fairly quiet but do consume a bit of electric. They will run a long time as long as there isnt sand or other objects getrting sucked into them

weird Tenecor told my boy to put foam under his tanks? I bet most of the tanks failing from your supplier are being caused by unleveled tank stands if the foam sold at the hardware stores were toxic enough to eat thru acrylic then why would they sell it unwrapped and not in a protective sheeting of some sort? a word of caution before signing anything check the tank throughly as I have seen their quality drop in the last year.Seems like Tenecor is hiring anybody off the streets to build their tanks their workmanship is nothing near a couple of years ago.they can't even follow simple instructions anymore example my boy is a distributor and he ordered 4 tanks with the feeding holes in the middle they sent 3 of the tanks with the feeding hole all the way to the right!

Well thanks for the advice guys. Good news is I heard back directly from tenecor and was told foam is ok but unneeded, though it won't eat away at the tank.... weird. Anyway, any other suggestions about anything?

If you look at the 180 stand in my sig i just finished......just an ideal for the sides with tongue and groove style wood. It gives it a unique look and I like it a lot better than the standard plywood sides :)

Got the rest of our wood the other day and the plywood.

Still shopping around for a pump.

Still unsure if my sump tank is tempered as we can't find our polarized sunglasses, lol.
I really want to be able to drill it to put in a drip system :-/

UGH!! Otherwise, my dad suggested I get a plastic tank/tub of some sort instead, such as some things I've seen in the DIY section ... anyone have ideas on what I could use?

New pics ...

All the supports are done.
Another attempt at the 4x4 frame and oops ... it's too short. LOL

Anyway, here are the wall frames to be put in between the top and bottom frames

And here are the frames minus the one 4x4

Now we just have to cut the cross braces and one more 4x4 and all the cutting will be done. And to cut the plywood and the foam. How does everyone else cut their foam to size?
Will start marking off connection joints soon so we can start construction of the walls and then staining.

Looks like you are headed in the right direction. A sharp razor blade will cut the foam like butter

rest the tank on 3/4" plywood only (no screws in the plywood - leave it loose)
the plwyood plies will normaly crush and level off when you fill the tank, it's meant to ..

Hmm...anyone else around here screwed down their plywood, or is this advise accepted by everyone? Just built a stand for my 6x4 and did screw down the top plywood. Only 6 screws so could be easily removed. They are recessed.

Please forgive me for jackin your thread, but the tanks going on it in couple days.
