New Tank Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
never mind my last post i have checked this thing called the internet, very useful you know we should all look on there someday:ROFL:, there are alot of pics of elongs with the pimples so i guess its normal.

Plus i think the other species there is S.marginatus

the one in the picture looked pretty good, but little black spots are usually a sign of external parasites.

the little bumps below the dorsal. I will treat it with antiparasite when its in my tank

i couldn't see the picture all that well, i don't have my contacts in yet... it's been one of those lazy days, ha.

i think you'll be fine either way, alot of elongs that i see come in show signs of external parasites, much more frequently than other species, not sure why... just something i've noticed over the years.

I am also interested in the one that resembles marginatus which would you go for? I know marginatus doesnt like as much flow but i like the idea of a river style aquarium

I decided to go with the 'white' piranha as the price of the elong was as much as it would be for a full grown one. The 'white' i think may be a rhom variant it has the body of a young rhom but the anal fin is red and the eye is red. Will have pics up asap, when it is brought home this weekend. Funny thing the elong hasnt come off live in 6wks i gave it pellets etc on sunday accfepted them straight away so did the 'rhom?'

I dont think it is a compressus but i hope not. What would be a good price range for a 5-6" rhom.

the elong pictured is actually a very nice specimen.. i like the diamond patterning along his flanks.. usually juvenile rhoms will go by the trade name white piranha so you have a good shot of it beeing a rhom.. compressus are often harder to find the rhoms so the price tag should be much higher for a compressus.. a rhom should generally go from $15 for 1"-2" to $500-700 for in upwards of 17" to 18".. ive seen 4" to 5" go for $50 to $60.. get some pictures up and we can definately get you a proper ID..

does a compressus go for more or is it worth more? Id like it to be rhom as a 8" fish will look lost in a 90gal. The fish is caught from the wild but the boss couldnt remember exactly where from
