Seems to do the trick - anything similar works.

For backgrounds, I usually use a plastic tablecloth cut to size and taped to the back.

I grabbed some black acrylic paint, hopefully will have time tonight!

When you do paint it, do it in multiple thin coats for best results. Here is a 125gal I painted the back black.

You can also tack fabric (double side 3m tape) and attach to frame in back ...easy peasy!

You still might want to 'bring down' that substrate a bit...fishy is blending in. Looks clean, tho

Forgot I finally got a good pic of the catfish before the black background. His dorsal fin is really tall, looks pretty cool!

A little black or river sand, it wouldn't take much. Sprinkled on top like seasoning!
