New tank build in progress

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
New build started....10x6x3.5. Stacked 2x4's nailed, glued and screwed and bolted to the studs in the wall, 2 layers of 5/8th OSB. I am still figuring out the size of the window for the front. It will be 3/4" glass or 1/2" acrylic. 30" high (12" up from the bottom).

It doesn't look like much now but this thing is solid as a rock. The wall to the left will be partly cut out for the plumbing for the filter and a waterfall going down in to the tank.

I am going to cover all the walls in plastic sheeting, plywood over that and then tile with some type of natural stone.

This is the final sketch of what it will look like.

The filtration will be on the other side of the left wall, pumped in to the built waterfall in the rear corner, where it will be filtered again and then water will flow back in to the tank.

D'oh. You tore it apart! My Koi are looking over my shoulder trying to decide which plan they liked best. The first build was nice but it would be a pain getting at anything. All maintenance in the tank would have to be done on a ladder haha. Are you gonna put cement board or green board up in the room first to help with the humidity problems you are going to face? If I put something like that up in my current house I am sure I wouldn't be able to see out any of my windows when it got to -25c outside.

Yes, I was thinking about green board. I have a humidity reader and thermometer down there and it's 71 degrees at 52% humidity....that's with a 12x36" swimming pool down there which was about 1800+ gallons, so I don't think humidity is going to be a problem. I started taking the pool down because my wife does NOT like it down there. I asked her if we could put it in the sunroom but I don't think it's gonna happen lol....so I need to get my tank built in the other part of the basement asap!
