New Tank for the Boys....

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
softball is right on.... the big dome is nice because it reduces the sucking in power ... they're kinda blowing the sand all over the place in my tank, gotta tweak the direction a little still, but the return is only about 3 inches below the surface so it creates a very river rapid type surface which is pretty neat... thank goodness its in my basement cause its loud as hell

Great set up, just curious, how big does the tarpon get? Pretty sure no where near the marine tarpons lol

Also are they aggresive you think?

they are the same fish, not exactly sure on their life cycle, but i know they live both in the ocean and in rivers.... they get huge, and he is the biggest teddy bear, have never once seen him attack another fish other than goldfish to eat

Tarpon, Atlantic or Indopac, can choose to live in freshwater or salt. The fish who choose to live in fresh, normally feed on a different diet than the saltwater fish and as such, don't grow quite as large. That being said, they can still get huge, the difference is five feet instead of nine.

Its worth noting however that tarpon of both kinds are very slow growers and take forever to get to their adult size. A nine foot adult Atlantic tarpon can be well over 50 years old.

i read that, they can get over 50 yrs old... son of gun is gonna outlive me!!! lol!:D

thanks guys, tank seems to be going through a little bit of a cycling phase, i was hoping to skip it by using some established bio-balls from my 220, but doesnt look like thats the case, just gonna have to monitor ammonia and nitrite levels and do frequent water changes to keep them down, and hopefully it'll go quickly because of the already established media ... a bit concerned how the fish will make it through with higher ammonia and nitrite than normal

i actually had a mala wolf, about 10 inches, but i gave him away the same day i moved all the other fish into the big tank.... it seems in the last month he got a little too grumpy, especially towards my Armatus, and even a GATF felt his wrath, so i couldnt risk him killing any of those guys.... the fish you see thats Wolf like possibly is my Jade? golby, got him about 2 yrs ago for my fiance, she liked him, and he was the size of a goldfish and now he's almost 8 inches long.... the wolf didnt like him either, and was beating him up pretty bad in the end as well, but he has very pretty and bright color

finally, 1 of my Goliaths broke down and ate like 5 massivores today, hopefully the other 2 follow the leader.... i'm a firm believer that a tank change, even a big decor change can cause fish to change what they eat... i starved the Goliaths for a month in my 220, and they never broke, now in 5 days in a new tank 1 already broke down
