New tank setup

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm not near you and nor do I have any fighting fish I need to rehome, but great to hear that you have so many suitable tanks! If there ever is a fighter that needs to be rescued, you can give it a good home.

By any chance, is your 579 liter one of them? Ever since I took in my rescue, I've wondered just how many MFKers have monster-sized tanks that are suitable for fighting fish rescues.

The story about the walking catfish is sad and funny at the same time. The 'big cats' are so often needing to be rescued that one can't help but chuckle at it, but so many fish needing to be rescued is, for obvious reasons, sad.

Yes, it is one of them.
I won’t be actively looking to rescue fish but I am not opposed. Provided they fit. They obviously wouldn’t be permanent fish, I would just help give them the time they needed to find suitable homes.

I have one beta setup that I keep my own beta in 5.5g and he/she loves it!

Myra the walking cat was sad to turn down, with my many plecos costing me an arm and a leg I’m very cautious what I put into my tanks now. No fish that could eat another is accepted!!!

Good thing your dog was with you.
My Daughter had a pack run by her as she was getting out of the car. The thought of that made me nervous.
My dog is almost coyote bait lol, they do always stop and size her up for a meal, I think they pass bc we are with her. She’s about 50lbs.
In true Canadian fashion I also carry coyote spray and a pocket knife with me whenever I leave my house.
A pack is much more scary than a single coyote, I would have been nervous as well!

There was an instance a few years back where a small number of coyotes...I believe it was 2 or 3...killed and partially ate a female folksinger who was hiking alone somewhere in the Maritimes. This was a healthy adult human; thinking about it keeps me on high alert whenever my granddaughters visit, as we have plenty of coyotes in our area as well.

During the last few years of her life, our little Miniature Pinscher Kayla would sometimes need to go outside in the middle of the night. I would always accompany her and would often see one or more coyotes sitting on their haunches near the barn, only about 50 meters from our back porch, just watching the little dog and me closely. I know what they were thinking. Our other two dogs, Lotus and Sheba...a Mastiff/Great-Dane and a Great-Pyrenees/Pitbull...killed several coyotes they caught venturing onto the patio, and even right into the dogs' kennel on one occasion. I have always wondered if the yotes were attracted to the scent of dog food...or the scent of the dogs. Whichever it was, it didn't end well for them.

Coyotes are highly intelligent predators and often hunt in well-organized packs. A big one is less than 40 pounds; 50 would be huge...but 1 or 2 of them would be more than a match for a 50 pound house dog. Stay on your toes, Niki.

esoxlucius esoxlucius , I am just packaging up that breeding colony of skunks you wanted; would you like me to include a pair of coyotes as well? They looooove cats! :)

Jeans are the worst thing to wear in the cold temperatures, you need some sweatpants or something similar
If I wore sweat pants to work in the winter then I would end up with shorts by lunch as freshly cut rebar has some very sharp edges and if I freeze my legs off then how am I suppose to reach the top tank?

That is terrifying to know they watch you and most likely know your routine!
Even the big dogs can be taken down if the pack is smart enough!
Always stay on my toes around those coyotes!

I don't mind the skunks. I have a teenage lad at home so I could house them in his bedroom as air fresheners!!!!

Coyotes? They're a different story. I'll gladly take the furry parts off you, you know, as a lovely warm fleecy jacket. The other parts, especially the skulls, I'll let you keep for your collection!
