New tank, what would you putin it??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
id do a uaru i love mine and some eartheaters and id look into some type of ray
Really, a 74x24" tank and you'd do a ray? 24" front to back is minimal for a ray, I wouldn't recommend it for any ray over 12" across - which just about every freshwater ray available has a chance of doing.

I'm partial to uarus - which, IMO, are the most beautiful cichlids. If you could keep them in a planted tank, there's no doubt I would have an 8' tank set up for them ASAP.

Perhaps you could do:
  • 4 uaru
  • 6-8 rams of your choice (bolivian, german, etc)
  • 15-18 corydoras of your choice (panda, sterbai, etc)
  • 30+ tetras of your choice (I would personally choose cardinals)
  • 2 smaller plecos (some of my favorites are the L134 leopard frog plecos)
That's how I would start, you might even be able to pull off 6 uaru in that tank if you were dead-set on it. You could probably get more corydoras in there as well.

Let us know what you end up with!

Hi Drew to much like my present 100gal minus the Uaru, now the Uaru I do like. Of course I'll keep everyone informed. I'll post some pics once the tanks gets here and I'll start to narrow the stock choice down and get some feedback. But the fish we can get local here is limited. Thanks for the advice.

I'd putin Putin

where in the UK are you? Neither festae or uaru should be difficult to source. If you decide on the festae just make sure they are festae and not urophthalmus labelled as festae which happens quite frequently in some stores.

I'm in Notts/Derby, thanks for the heads up re the labelling. I'm edging and I appreciate this may be the boring option but I do like Severum. So, heres a question could I keep some sevs with a single festae or a GT???? I know fish can differ so much but on the whole so to speak. Thanks

Either could work but I would lean towards the green terror as it's maximum size and average temperament is a lot more suitable.
Many thanks for that, so I think there we have it (at this point in time ;)) The base is now built and the overhead lighting is in, so its just the tank we're waiting for. I'll post some pics when it comes. Oh here's a question that can divide any fish keeper. Dark or light sand?? I was going for a bare bottom and the tank will have a black base (fitted during the build) but I just like that bit of sand and I do think fish like it also, any thoughts??? Thanks once again.

I like dark sand, although terrors can look nice on lighter.

A good neutral sand would be ideal imo
