NEW YORK
I recently decided to add some africans in with my south amrecans, and bichirs. So far its going great I'm slowly raising the ph up to 7.5 which is minimum and max for the fish in the tank.

I decided to down size due to future overstock so in a week a so ill have my permanent stock. the africans i went with are the icey blue zebra and a auratus chchlid. Can anyone tell me about these 2 cichlids. All i know is they have the reputaions for being bad asses in tanks. Any advise for mixing fish and info about my africans

TUT why mix completely uncompatable fish like that?
Its cruel.
If you didnt know, fair enough.
But you said yourself that you know they shouldnt be mixed.

most ppl dont know that but i do and cihclids are able to adapt to various water parameters. They were bought at petsmart and all tanks at petsmart run on the same filtration systems so im pretty sure that they dont have the ph at 7.8-8.2. I do know what I'm doing. The one thing you have to be catious about with mixing cichlid families is matching aggression and size. In this aspect the africans are more aggressive but are not showing aggression towards the other fish.

ive heard that too but in depends on the fish u keep to. U dont wanna keep jd,gt with africans cuz they would be toast.

Yes, you can match aggression, but how do you match the correct diet?
Or do you ensure the water is acidic enough for the Americans, but hard enough for the Malawis?
There are 1001 reasons why not to keep these fish together, there are thousands of species of fish that can be properly housed together, so why do Americans always insist on housing incompatible fish together?
This website amazes me.
Theres dozens of posts like this one, its truelly shocking.

o ur not american. is this a statment saying were are incompetent or dumb becasue of the things we do. If the water ur drinkin is the same that ur using for ur fish no wonder u cant mix fish think about it????/?

There are many reasons not to mix these species. The biggest issue is differences in diet. SAs need more protein, the ACs need less. You really need to address this issue first. It's more than just water parameters it's also communication and stocking.

But it's clear you are going to do whatever you want regardless of what others say.
