I just got 2 wild discus from a guy who had them for sell and he seemed to know what he was doing. But he said they had been converted off ro water onto our water. Im wondering if you have to do this with all discus? My wife really likes these two we have so were planning on ordering more. But I need to find out who to order from, what to get how to get them on our water because I wont be running an r o unit. I have kept rays pbass and alot of other fish but from what I hear discus are a whole new game. Any help would be great thanks

if you aclimulate it right it should be ready for your water from day one assuming its from a healthy reliable source.

It should be good water if I've kept rays in it? Is there a special way to acclimate discus? I just drip for a couple hours with all my other fish

drip should be fine. how big is the ray and how big are the discus? how big is the tank? how often do you change your water and how much? what else is in the tank?

The rays and pass are in my 500 gallon they are about half grown. The discus I will be ordering would be 2-4 inches I imagine and the discus will be in their own 125. I do water changes once a week and have excellent filtration. Im mainly worried about the acclimation process because I have heard it takes a few weeks to get wild discus from r o water to local water

Depending on your source for the wilds...some already have them acclimated to regular tap water. If I were you though I would stick with the larger size wilds to start with. They require less care and maintenance..plus small wilds are hard to come by.

Maybe they aren't wild then? They are probably tank raised now that I think about it. My lfs sell some that look pretty good for$20. So what if I have some tank raised fish that have been kept in r o water? Would they switch to tap water easily? Giving the fact that the tap water was clean and healthy water my other fish are doing well in?

tank raised are normally hardier than wilds but i wouldnt buy from a lds maybe try looking for a dealer in your area or buy from a simplydiscus sponsor?

Going from a low ph to a high ph isnt too bad actually..going from high ph to low is harder to acclimate. jme
