if you'r really serious about discus join forum.simplydiscus.com, I'm a member there, great people/great connections

most strains now a days can typically live in harder water, I ran mine straight from the sink (ph of around 8-8.2) with some Prime added to it and they were fine, but you need RO water if u want them to pair up and breed

you dont need ro to pair or to breed

This lfs breeds his own discus. But I do understand why it isn't suggested to buy from normal local stores

even if he breeds his own i would suggest against it since most fish store runs their tank on connecting sump to save money/time. if he has the discus in a seperate room and on seperate filtration then maybe

So who would you order from? There are no discus only breeders local so I would have to order... and why wouldn't the discus be able to breed in normal water?

the discus can breed in tap its been done and its being doing right now. i would order from a sponsor on simplydiscus.com if your looking for wilds i would go with snook i believe he has wilds. if u want domestics go with kenny hes the man!

you typically do need RO water, a lot of tap water is too hard, if you dont believe me check out the threads at forum.simplydiscus.com, if you want quality discus, you will never go wrong with Hans, world known breeder...

-.- PLENTY of simply members has gotten pairs without ro or the intentions of breeding. plenty of singapore breeder dont use. hell plenty of breeder in the states dont even use ro and they have quality stock. alot of tap are hard but alot arent unless you test his tap you wont know.

to say you need ro to breed is the same as saying discus are sensitive or to say 1 inch per gallong.
