New to discus. Need the basics please

could be from the pic but it looks a bit weird? maybe stunted? not 100% sure can someone confirm if they are? anyways the black freckles are most diffinitely peppering. also not 100% sure but i dont think those are wilds.

Probably not wilds.... that's fine for the price I paid, figured id give these a test run to see how ny luck is with discus how can you tell if they are stunted and what will be the problem if they are besides they wont get as big? I do find it a little strange that the bigger has no black and the smaller has a pretty good amount of peppering. Do they ever grow out of it?

they dont grow out of peppering it stays with them. the side affects of a stunt fish is it wont live as long, isnt has healthy, could possibly be deformed. all said and done you never want a stunt fish even as test subjects. i would suggest getting a second opinion as to whether theyre stunted or not. if they are i suggest youstart over with a nice quality stock. kenny will be getting his jan shipment soon. u can see what he has coming here:

I don't know why I would start over when there isn't any proof of these fish being stunted. And also in a tank where I want to have a collection of discus I don't see why I would need to get rid of them either. I doubt they will cause any new additions to the tank to become stunted as well... sorry I appreciate all the advice but I don't see why I would need to get rid of these fish. I see no problem with them

Those are definately not wilds. They are a pigeon based fish. As for the peppering some fish show more due to stress, environment, or genetics. The fish in the front might be stunted hard to tell from the angle. The one in the back looks ok it should still grow fine. As for that fish stunting others not really. But some stunted fish are prone to having health issues alot. Just something to watch for. As for the stunting itself...I can warn about the dangers or how to not stunt a fish in the future. That being said I have a stunted fish in my tank. It came that way and even after power feeding it I managed to put an inch on it in a year lol. Will I cull it no it is one of my most personable fish..will I breed it no...will I take pics and boast about it probably not but it is still my fish and I enjoy it. I am not preaching to have people to go out and buy stunted fish (I believe people should start with a healthy fishand stunted ones rarely are) but I won't tell you to cull it just because it is.

This is still all based on a huge IF it MAY be stunted... what signs are you looking for in a stunted fish?

use the sticky at the top of the page

Humm..... hard to tell on the smaller one. I think the bigger looks great and hoping the little guy starts to grow or else you guys maybe right

its all cause of the angle you shot it at. who know it might even reach 8 inch. thats why i said i wasnt sure and needed confirmation on it
