New to fish got a couple questions

oh and i bought some ghost shrimp to try and feed them but i guess they don't wanna eat them so should i take them out or leave them? My jag ate 3 feeder guppies without a problem.
 
yeah you def dont want to feed feeders from the petstore as they can carry parasites which they will pass on to your fish, try breeding your own guppies or just do what i do and only feed live insects instead of fish as treats, but make sure they are eating a good pellet as their staple diet, also i would just leave the ghost shrimp in there, they will serve as clean up crew until they are eaten. as for plants you could put some sturdy sword plants in there or any other hardy plants with harder/thicker leaves. but yeah if your JD is female i would try and return it to get a male, they are much more colorful and you will have a lot less problems once you upgrade to the larger tank if you only have males, and a 125 should be fine and then you could possibly add another cichlid that stays either the same size as the JD or slightly smaller and a nice school of dithers
 
The Jack is chasing the Jag now but one day that scenario will be reversed. Jags are very territorial and a 55gal will make that fact worse. Stay away from feeders. Once a Jag is stuck on feeders it's very hard to get them to eat anything but feeders. You risk introducing harmful diseases in your tank with feeders also unless you raise them yourself. Jags don't really like plants too much. They will usually root them up. So make sure your plants are robust and strongly anchored.
 
yeah well the guppies will need to be kept in a separate tank, a 10g is adequate and just plant it with lots of plants (real or fake, doesnt matter) for the babies to hide in and then just feed and wait, you will be overflowing with guppies in no time, i personally however dont like having to set up an entirely different tank that i have to upkeep just for food so i just feed things like worms, mealworms, crickets, grasshoppers and then frozen stuff like raw shrimp, etc
 
I'm not a big fan of feeders (way too much work and nutritional value is not superior to other forms of food). At your local petstore you can get frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, and krill and your fish will LOVE them.
 
so how would i get my jag to eat none live food the JD will take pellets basically out of my hand but the jag will fake attack the pellets then swim away. This might sound bad but should i starve the jag till the pellets start looking good to him? I have like 3 to 4 ten gallon tanks so i might do that guppy idea just cause.
 
Feeding live feeders will make your aggressive fish that much more aggressive. Thats the last thing you want to do in a small space. Stick to quality pellets and frozen foods. They will benefit alot more.
