thanks, so im planning on a 260 diy tank l-5 1/2ft h-2ft w-3ft for my peacock bass and my 2 oscars and ropefish. so i was thinkin maybe a 50 tupperware with shelving or a smaller tupperware inside full of whatever media, then a pump to return water to the tank. anyone have anything to add that i possibly havnt thought of?

If you want to go as cheap as possible.... You could always have a pump in the tank pushing water to some of these stacked up:

Only downside to this is that you would have to have it over the tank but it would not require overflows or anything of that matter. All you would need to do is open wholes below each container for the water to pass and open 2 or more big holes on the side facing the tank of the last bin ofr the filtered water to come out of.

It would be a monster filtration system depending on what pump/size of bins you use.

yeah i have thought about somethink along those lines, but im really trying to avoid an overhead system, mostly just becouse my tank is destined to be the centerpiece in my dining room , and building a large overhead filtration system eclosure (that would look decent) into my build would increase the budget a good bit, i was also looking into pond type canister filter becouse they are actually cheaper than those labeled for ''aquarium use'':screwy:

and it could fit in the massive storage space i would have in stand for the 6x3 or 5 1/2x3 aquarium:D

well it will be a larger home for my peacock, as he is growing fast, and im thinking eather a tiger shovel cat/red tail cat, as for the oscars i might just leave them with the 55

what size tank are people keeping those cats in?
