on a side note, are there any africans that i can put with them too kinda spread out aggression? with only the 2 fronts, they are not so much schooled, as they are mad, or whatever you want to call it. i know they are a tanganyikan cichlid, meaning tanganyikan cichlids would be the best choice, im not a bigginer with the african cichlids. any names, or pictures would be greatly appreciated.

the best thing you can do for your fronts is to add more fronts of the same species..they love to be in a colony... i think yours are burundi but you should get a positive ID and then get at least 4 more of them... they love being together... they love hiding places.. make sure all your hiding places are smooth and soft inside so that they are not injured when they are skiddish and dart in and out... i would not add any other type fish at this stage of their life.. they like to eat sinking food.. they do not need any competition from fish on top or in the middle... just solely concentrate on them ..they are a valuable fish and as they grow.. even more valuable.. later a few years down the road since they grow slow you will have to sell some off if there is too many males as then they will begin to fight.. they too will hold their value... so i would just concentrate on their well being.. good luck.

I personally had a helianthus and synodontis with mine when they were all growing up but I also had a large school of them and my helianthus just chilled with them and the syno just minds its own business. What red devil has added is good advice.

As for sand vs crushed coral... I dont like crushed coral cuse theres to many edges and with skiddish fish I am just afraid they will get injured on it...call me paranoid. I use ceramic coated quartz (I use the equivalent of 3M's S grade, although many seem to perfer the T grade). I find this stuff at construction companys or pool builder/design type places. You have to wash it out really good like any sand but it shouldnt cloud up your tank once it settles. I hate play sand as its really really dirty, so I dont blame you there I wouldnt want to use it/keep it either.

Keep us updated on how their progress.

thank you, any idea where i could get more? my petco only had these two little guys. i will look into the quarts substrate. i have them with 2 corie cats, to help clean up what they miss, they are eating, can't say like pigs yet, but getting there. i took the skull out and replaced it with a smooth river rock cave structure. so far so good.

you might be able to get an order for more through petco ...just ask who ever does the wholesale orders, to order you a couple more two inch size or smaller.. and also if you have a local fish store you may be able to order a few from them.. then of course there is always the shipping orders.. but before you do that ..get a positive ID ... and when you do get new ones.. place them in quareenteen tank ... 10 or more gal for a couple of weeks to make sure they are okay to mix with the ones you have now.. you do not want to transmit any diseases.. so good idea to set up a little tank to have it ready when you get more.....you can use partial amount of the water you have in the tank thats set ip... when you do a water change..

i will do that, i would have to see how much petco would sell them to me for... the guy told me 160 bucks, i almost left, but i thought i would wait for the fish lady to come back, and she gave me a great deal. not sure if she'd do it again. my local store just closed down before christmas, so im stuck with petco only. so far i have only been told burundi, so until i get a positive ID, i won't get any more. they are settling in nicely, and i might be able to get you a video tonight when i get home. just to show prgress from hiding and being stationary like they were when i brought them home.
