What size tank is it in? 8" is very small for a gibby at that age, mine is over 14" and is only about 14 months old...

i'm guessing 55g based off her profile info. should be large enough to house an 8" gibby but will need a larger tank eventually. some fish just grow quicker than others.

I agree, but 8" is not normal for any gibby at that age. Usually even the slowest growing specimens will reach 10" by their first year as long as they are healthy...

I had it in a 37 gallon with my community fish for a while then upgraded to a 55 gallon with my EBJDs and severums.

An inch a month! That's crazy! I know for a while I had to medicate the small tank off and on due to serious illnesses. That may have something to do with it. Although, he's never gotten sick himself... Idk...

he may just be a little stunted from being in the 37g. i would say as long as he is healthy and doesn't look deformed (which he doesn't in the pics) he should be ok. plecos don't usually seem to have issues with deformity when they get stunted, they just tend to stop growing from what i've seen. plus as we already stated, that guy looks to be bigger than 8" anyways. how long ago did you move him to the 55g?

While that statement is true to an extent, I think you may be overlooking two of the biggest issues associated with stunting: weakened immune system and poor health.

Yeah it's definitely stunted. It isn't severely deformed, but its body shape definitely isn't perfectly normal.

What is it that appears to be deformed? I haven't been able to notice any deformities based on the specimens I've seen.

All of my fish in my 55g are still small but I'm aware that I'll need to upgrade eventually. I've had him moved over for almost 2 months now. He's found favorite spots to hang out too. Plenty of driftwood and all in there for him, too.

Its fins are slightly disproportional (particularly the dorsal and caudal fins) and its body (especially the face) is more bony than it should be. But like I said, it's not severely deformed, it's just not completely normal.

It is possible that since it has been stunted for 3 years, it won't grow much larger than it is now, and if that's the case, then you may not need to upgrade (unless of course you have other fish that will outgrow the tank as well).

Aren't those normal signs of a typically younger fish anyway? His proportions are still changing, even from when I first had him.

He's in the tank with my gold severums and ebjds. I know they will outgrow the tank. I just plan on upgrading my 37 to the 55g and buying a new 90g or 125g for my 55g occupants. My ebjds are still very young and small (2"), so I'm not sure how they will do yet.
