Why not german rams? they are prettier IMO

In all fairness (In my experience at least), Germans are more sensitive to water parameters changing up than Bolivians, and in this tank there will be issues with this.

IMO, hatchets are a no-no unless you can keep at least 6, and if you're running this tank open-topped, I don't know if I'd put them in there either. Take it easy on the CO2 as well, especially if you've never used it before, and MONITOR THE PH. pH can drop very rapidly as a result of too much CO2 and burn fishes' gills to death. 20-long is a good small tank for a starter planted tank, and I wish you luck! Cardinals always look good in planted tanks.

Sorry, I didn't mean to offend. I just meant that there is a lot higher chance of having problems in a tank like this and certain kinds of fish will be ok with that and some absolutely won't... german rams tend to be one of them.

im fairly new to plants but ill give ya my 2 cents
low light plants, lose co2 for now work your way into it
upgrade as you go
read the stickys
helped me alot

I'd like to know what species your gouramis are. Rehome the angelfish, loaches, swordtails, barbs and silver dollars. I am sorry but they obviously do not fit well in that tank. You can retain the cardinal tetras and add a small group of pencilfish/hatchetfish, blue rams and otos/cories. That's all.

Agreed, like I said on page one, that stocklist ain't gonna work. :grinno:

pressurized c02 is the easiest to regulate though, keep your co2 between 20-30ppm and you shouldnt have any problems. As for sensitivity of the fish planted tanks are so much more beneficial to fish like rams and other fish. As for lighting your only at 1.7 wpg which is kinda of a minimum when it comes to plants but that also depends on what plants you get.

My Anubias nana just kick butt regardless of what I do. Right now I've upgraded to about 1.5wpg, and they are happy as can be, flowering every few months and I've split them several times. Echinodorus rubin is also growing well and multiplying like crazy, but they were a little wimpy and off-color until I set up a diy-CO2 fermenter.

I've tried lots of other plants, and the best that can be said for them is that some still aren't technically dead.
