Considering a 20-long is only 12 inches high, 1.7 watts per gallon is probably plenty for the plants you'll be keeping as a beginner. There should be a better measurement for light output for tanks. If this were a 20-high, he should be running at least 2 wpg, but 1.7 is plenty for a tank that is only 12 inches high, IMO.

IMO, anubias can be grown in a closet with a kerosene lamp next to the tank:ROFL:
