New to Polypterus - Substrate Advice!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Poly #7 Teugelsi came today! About 3", seller said it was WC but it looks more like the cb examples you guys have shown me, though I'm far from an expert with the ID's. I also tried a new substrate in its quarantine tank. It's a mix of black diamond blasting sand and Quikrete all-purpose sand, about 10-1 ratio respectively. The pic doesn't quite capture it, but so far this is my favorite substrate look so I think I'm going to be trying this out in the 100 gal that will soon house my little poly army3.JPG

haha yeah I've been on a bit of a spree recently. and someone said something similar the other day, that the wc teugs come much larger. But I agree, head shape looks to me like a cb

I'm liking the new additions! The ansorgii is likely to share the same growth rate as teug. Ansorgii are the slowest out of the lower jaws.

Thanks! I'm really happy with them. And I read something saying that ansorgii grow very slowly. From what I've seen senegalus are the fastest growers. Both of mine grew a couple inches in the first month, haven't seen anything remotely close to that rate from any of my others. Is this normal?

RIP Endli... woke up this morning and found him dried up on the floor under the stand... Tank is almost 100% covered, he must've squeezed out the area around the filter, really didn't think it was possible. Sucks

Sorry to hear.

Thanks guys... The more I look at the cover on the tank the more I feel like he must have jumped through the return waterfall to get out. At least he went out in what must've looked like a pretty sweet John McClane-esque move
