New to Rope Fish - help on set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hey everyone, thought I would give an update on how the new tank is going. It was a lot of work for that first week lol the sand is working out great and all the fish love it. Heater is working great and you guys were right, Beamer is out and active far more now! She also now comes to me magpie magpie :) she still won't take food from me but will wrap herself around my fingers like she's hugging me, she is so soft!

Espy, my terror of a bn pleco has calmed down a lot and no longer bothers the piggies, the bigger tank really did good for her.

I did add a few more fish because all of mine were bottom dwellers and it looked very empty lol so I got some very colorful sunset fire platies and a beautiful chocolate pompon gold fish with orange poms. All of them get along famously. The gold fish is named Boombah, you know, rah rah rah, sis boom bah lol she is a very active girl and I will frequently find her and Beamer swimming together. Beamer just loves the goldfish. I also added 2 delphax corys with my blue mottled ones. All the piggies are best friends.

And yes, I still have all the shrimp lol my water levels are perfect, tank is always clean. The piggies and boombah keep the sand sifted very well. Between the fish and the 120gal filtration, I have a well oiled machine lol I've never had a tank with such a mixed community and such peaceful harmony. They all get along, swim together, eat together, sleep together etc. I feel like I have perfection <3

looks great just one thing to mention, the platys may be in danger depending on size. My 1st sengalus ate 50 of them in the 1st 2 weeks and he was only 2" at the beginning of those 2 weeks after that 2 weeks he was almost 4" and in his own tank

The rope isn't bothering them at all. Even the shrimp are safe with her. Once I get the big tank and get the uj's, small fish won't be in the tank. The platies will stay in the 29 along with the other smaller fish. These platies are just over 2" in length, no way I can put them in with the uj's. Beamer hasn't eaten any of her tank mates since I started a good food mix for her. Even the 1" mystery tetra is still in the tank. It really is amazing how well beamer is living with her smaller mates, I really got lucky with her. The uj tank will be a far different set up. I'm not even sure I will put ropes in with them in the big tank, I've seen far too many pics on these forums of the uj and lj eating ropes.

How big can a 10" ropefish get in about 12 months? Asking for a friend..... If it gets big enough, this friend might get 2 more.

My beamer is 12" currently, she was 8 or 9 inches when I got her over the summer. She has been getting more thick though now. She has about doubled her girth. Not sure how much bigger she will get.
