New to Rope Fish - help on set up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yea the little bit of nutrition brine supplies is really negated by the fact that they contain so little caloric substance. Mysis is a much better option more substance then either brine or blood worm. But blood worms trump brine in the flavoring department.

Thank you all for the information on the food :) I do have 2 types of pellets as well, cichlid and shrimp pellets. Picture another page or 2 back. I have a little dish I put some tank water in to thaw the blood worms and I add the pellets about a minute before I feed so they soak up some of the juice and soften.

So, since I talk about about my corys here and it appears many of you are experienced with them... I think I have a problem :(

Corys have been a staple in all my tanks for 30 yrs, community and semi aggressive. I have never had any health issues in all those years. I noticed this morning that only 2 of my piggies were bopping around so I went to inspect and see where the 3rd one is. I found him, in a back corner, with an eye missing :( he looks like he is panting. Could the rope fish have caused that? Did she try to eat my 2" cory? I don't know what to do.

It's quite possible. Unfortunately. I wasn't overly worried about it but the thought had crossed my mind. I caught one of my dels with a syno in his mouth last night when I got home from work. I saved the syno, I haven't gone to check on him this morning (he's in the sump) but it goes to show you never know.

It's the only thing different in my tank, having a carnivore :(

I've had corys before and have never had Cory on Cory agression to the point of damage so yeah my guess is your rope thought this could be food. Fortunatly your rope and my del were unsuccessful in their attempt for their own sake corys and synos have spikes that can lodge in their mouth or throat and then you lose two fish. I'd get some tilapia to suppliment your ropes diet until it cones around to pellets. But you may have to get rid of either the corys or the rope for everyone's safety. ....sorry.

I'll make a run to the market and try that. There are still 2 neon in the tank but I think after the rope eating so many, those 2 are outsmarting Beamer, for the time being. But if I have to rehome any, man, that would be a super hard decision. I've had the corys far longer and I love them dearly, but I love the rope too. Poop poop poop. Hopefully tilapia will help though. Thanks
