Hey folks,
I was messin around on google and found this site. I think that it is a great site and I might be able to get some info from some of you folks or you might get some info from me.
I might be a little controversy to some of you folks because I am an avid bowfisherman and have been doing so for about 25 years.
For the last 10 years or so I have been attempting a couple home projects with the ever amazing alligator gar.
I aquired 6 young of year from an undisclosed hatchery to attempt to raise. When I first got them they were rather poor and on the verge of demise due to the feeding arrangements at the hatchery. Unfortunately I lost them all due to equipment malfunctions.
I did not stop here a acouple years lter I aquired a young of year that was spawned out naturally, I raised this fish from 1 3/4 inch up to 29 1/2 inches in length. I had this fish for exactly 1 year before the fish decided to leave the tank when I was gone to Texas for work. Tanks have since been modified to prevent this occurance from happening again.
I have since changed directions in my obsession with these great fish. During my advetures bowfishing I have managed to aquire 2 brood fish this last year. One is a huge female that weighs in over 135 pounds, the other is a big male weighing in at over 100 pounds. My goal is to aquire another female and 3 or 4 males to ensure my genetic diversity of these fish.
So far feeding issues have not been much of a problem. Fortunately the Good Lord has smiled upon me and kept my holding pond full of water. Do not know how long this will last. Hopefully long enough to get a good spawn out of them then I can release the brood fish.
looking forward to being a member of this site.
