Feeder Fish
Hey folks,
I was messin around on google and found this site. I think that it is a great site and I might be able to get some info from some of you folks or you might get some info from me.

I might be a little controversy to some of you folks because I am an avid bowfisherman and have been doing so for about 25 years.:headbang2

For the last 10 years or so I have been attempting a couple home projects with the ever amazing alligator gar.
I aquired 6 young of year from an undisclosed hatchery to attempt to raise. When I first got them they were rather poor and on the verge of demise due to the feeding arrangements at the hatchery. Unfortunately I lost them all due to equipment malfunctions.:irked:

I did not stop here a acouple years lter I aquired a young of year that was spawned out naturally, I raised this fish from 1 3/4 inch up to 29 1/2 inches in length. I had this fish for exactly 1 year before the fish decided to leave the tank when I was gone to Texas for work. Tanks have since been modified to prevent this occurance from happening again.

I have since changed directions in my obsession with these great fish. During my advetures bowfishing I have managed to aquire 2 brood fish this last year. One is a huge female that weighs in over 135 pounds, the other is a big male weighing in at over 100 pounds. My goal is to aquire another female and 3 or 4 males to ensure my genetic diversity of these fish.

So far feeding issues have not been much of a problem. Fortunately the Good Lord has smiled upon me and kept my holding pond full of water. Do not know how long this will last. Hopefully long enough to get a good spawn out of them then I can release the brood fish.:grinno:

looking forward to being a member of this site.:)

i know you are trying to do a good thing by breeding them, but it is actually very illegal to release a fish into wild waters. even if you take a bass home, and it goes in your tank for 30 seconds, and then is released back to its waters, you could get a huge fine.
welcome to MFK

This my friend has already been checked on with the department of natural resources. We have all the legalities covered. This is what private watersheds are for:headbang2 .
I have also checked with another location that has watersheds on them, their natural resources manager is good to go.:naughty:

Releasing native fish back to native watrs is not illeagal here. The stocking of fish in public waters without the consent of the wildlife department is.;)

You always need to have all basis covered before you start on one of these projects.

Welcome aboard, there is a forum called FISHING FORUM. Check it out, you aren't the only one here who fishes.

It has been a while but I also like to bow fish, My only objection are those yahoos who just kill the fish and then trash it. Welcome to the site.

to the board. im a fisherman as well, but i stick to the 10-12ft rods for saltwater gamefish. there are alot of anglers on here. bow fishing sounds fun and i bet quite rewarding. hope you enjoy the sight. if you ever get a chance check out www.pierandsurf.com its a fishermans heaven;)

Whats up to every one out there in the wild world of fish and all things that swim. I just got my first, what I consider real tank, a 100gal 15x18x18.5 and I am having the worst time on trying to figure out what to stock it with. I'm going fresh water and trying to not go with the aggresive fish but more of a variety and I like the exotics. Probaly a few days after I got my tank I came home and got on line and stumbled across the fresh water stingrays, but already looking at the sizes that they come in and grown to I knew I was headed for a delima. I also found a real cool web site that makes a real 3D back ground that goes inside your tank which would take up more space from the ray if I got one. The web site have some real cool stuff check it out. Well my question to all you pros in the game would be is this list of fish that I came up with a good mix? Oh, buy the way it took me up until 2:30a.m. in the morning making it because once I got going I just could not stop until I had a final list of what I thought would make a kick ass tank. First lets just say we had room for the stingray a smaller sized motoro, 1 glass knifefish, 1 black ghost knifefish, 1 threadfin geophagus, 1 denison barb, 1 whiptail, 1 siamese alge eater, 1 golden alge eater, and 1 eel a more non aggresive one if they exist. 2 brichardi cichlid albino, 1 or 2 imperial zebra plecos or king tiger plecos, 3 emerald catfish, 3 clown loach, 3 cherry barb, and 3 albino cherry barb. I was going to use some type of smooth gravel for the bottom or should I go with sand and a 200gal to 250gal wet dry filter with the needed assecories. Should I do plants, yes or no with this crowd? I think thats it for now. I'm looking forward to all your feedback, thanks.
