New to sumps, giving it a try

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow thanks! to have only gotten responses from one person you have been VERY helpful.. just one of the things that make MFK so great :headbang2 Now to start gathering supplies and building :D

Thanks again forgottenx !!

Oops bee0912 I guess your post wasnt updated till I had begun typing my previous post so I should also be telling you thanks!! lol BTW the pics really do help me get a better idea of what the end result should be. Do I need to silicone a piece of glass to use a seperator for the chambers in the sump like the compartment where the pump will be located... or what is the best way to make these compartments? I know they are necessary to control the water flow but the best way to make them is where I am still a little foggy

okay! great I honestly think I am out of questions... thanks again to both of you!

You don’t have to. If you do a raised chamber like my setup the pump can be placed under the baskets with no dividers. If you put the media in the sump like my other setup then yes you will need to silicone in dividers.

silicone glass pref. plexi glass flexes and tends to break the silicone seal...

well its what i did, and mine is falling apart from on the pump side, when the level gets a little low in the sump the plexy bows a good inch, last night one side was already loose. it took about a month before the silicone seal broke... my fix for now is to keep a higher water level in the sump... i'm going to redo it with in the next few days

(ninja edit)
then again my sump is a 55g and size might matter... i dont know

1/8in either way i'm switching to glass, i found some in my garage that i had forgotten that i had

Yeah the first sump I posted has a glass wall from another 10 gallon I broke. it is nicer but more trouble to cut or have cut then plexi.
