New to SW and have some questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't completely trust them...I know they are supposed to be reliable but I would hate to come home one day to find out that my overflow box decided to clog or to find the seal broken and the tank emptied out...

i've never had an issue with my CPR overflow, although it is in FW
are there known problems with them ?
I use one on my 120 reef. I have to clean the U tube on a regular basis the algae builds up inside it and slows down the flow into the sump. the tank will overflow if it builds up too much. once it starts to slow it clog's real fast
I wish I drilled the tank when I had the chance

put a small pre filter in it,
thats what i did and i clean it out once a week and i have never had any build up in the u

the problem is the algae grows in the tube. I dont think a prefilter will help with that.I have been thinking of painting the tube black to solve the problem hopefully no light will = no algea

just put an electronic float in your tank to shut your pump off if it ever gets close to an overflow due to a failure

I would recommend getting a protein skimmer. I would never run a saltwater tank without one.

I completely agree wth the protein skimmer. I would definitely be doing that along with getting a UV Sterilizer most likely. When I do start this project, I am going to do it right!
