I’ve had my 7” flowerhorn since he was hardly 1”. Every time I do any maintenance on his tank he draws blood from my hand. Cichlids are some nasty fu***rs. How do you remove him without damaging scales?
I have an extra large fine mesh net and I will gently coerce him into it and then slowly lower one of those half tall 5 gallon ice cream buckets into the tank and quickly transfer him in with minimal splashing and freaking out. However I think I'm going to try the net him up and leave him in the tank method from now on

I’ve tried many things with my flowerhorn from waiting until the water levels low enough so my hand isn’t in the water to keeping him in a net but he always finds a way to ruin his scales or bite me ?.

Howdy folks, I'm a long time lurker and admirer of the page and of all you wonderful people, and decided to finally join the club this morning! I've had various tanks throughout my childhood but I'll admit- I had no idea what I was doing then, I just knew I LOVED aquariums and the entire idea of fish keeping.
Fast Forward at least 10years I decided to pick the hobby back up last year out of sheer boredom and wanted to keep something I've always dreamed of keeping- a FlowerHorn.
I hobbled from LFS to LFS and other vendors/market platforms to find local breeders who can help me find the perfect fish. I came across a fellow who had a few Jaguar Cichlid x FlowerHorn hybrid fry. I took one look at the parents and couldn't imagine what their offspring would look like... one of the litter was roughly 2-3x bigger than all his siblings, I instantly fell in love and brought him home in a snack size Ziploc bag. He colored up normally after a day or so in his new tank, and I quickly saw his fighting stripes come forth before my eyes in an instant! it was mesmerizing! Come January 31/2022 will mark my one year of keeping him, he's exploded in size and ATTITUDE!!!I just got him a gorgeous female Jag to hopefully pair off with and see what comes out!

Yeah I never thought one fish could give me as much trouble as he does but he's worth it....at least that's what I'm telling myself LOL, my boy has definitely mucked his scales but the healing factor is another amazing trait these creatures possess it's absolutely astounding! No trace of any damages he's done to himself

Lucky. My guy has a tear on his pelvic fin that never healed back and looks like a crescent chunk was taken off it. These guys are abusive but totally worth the pain ? the colors and personality these guys have make it more than worth it

I’m happy that my cichlids don’t try to bite me…they ain’t a flowerhorn, but my jd’s teeth do not look pleasant at all.
Of course, I do have a fish that tries to kill me…

How much damage can clownfish do to you? I know nothing about them other than the movie finding Nemo ?.
She’s still only about 2 inches, so not much more than a red mark…but it does hurt. Clownfish are evil…
At about 4 inches they can draw blood.
