no algae removers. Puffers do not have scales so things like that can kill them. This is why high levels of ammonia are not good for them.

If you have a problem with algae you can reduce the light the tank gets or reduce feedings or vacuum the tank better.

Good thing you told me that. I was just about to go get some.

Next question- Walmart had ammonia clear tablets. Will those help at all?

J-P, That was a single GSP in a 10g?

Yes, it was.. no tank upgrade possible and no possibility of return. Just had to deal with the situation.

I wouldn't use tablets but ammonia absorbing crystals you can add to your filter might help. Best bet is water changes though. 50% daily.

I was doing 1/3 changes. I started 50% today.

LOL, my article is everywhere!!!
I didn't realize the one article was yours...My point still remains the same.

And in this day and age Google is a fishkeepers best friend and if you do enough research you'll be able to filter out what is good and bad. That is as long as you don't just pick out the info that suit your wants and not the needs of the fish.

Good luck to all

wow this thread really boomed in the last hour!!

They may or may not help your situation.

Just out of curiosity, do you have or can you obtain a second filter and or a media sock?

I can get another filter just not sure how it will fit on the tank with the top on it.

As for a media sock? I don't know what that is.

A media sock is a handy little guy. It is used in multi tank applications and or temp situations where , it is a "sock" filled with filter media.

In order for you to be able to increase the amount of beneficial bacteria that populate the tank you'll need to increase the surface area.

A second filter that is bio only and a media sock filled with pumice blocks will help a lot.

It will not reduce the number of water changes you have to do but it will help stabalize the tank a little more.

SO:
Filter 1 (original) has sponge (mechanical) and pumice (bio media)
Filter 2 is pumice only
One of those filters should flow on to the media sock.

That is a media sock... very handy little tool and I use it all the time. Especially when I need to set up a tank quick from an older existing one.

I am now unsure that I have a filter that is going to be appropriate.
When I bought the tank I bought a combo pack I guess. It came with the tank and hood and lights and a filter.

It is a tetra something or other....
