Just got this guy last night for 60 dollars from Animal Jungle in Va Beach. He was listed as a male trimac/flowerhorn. Any help with identification would be helpful as far as what type of flowerhorn. Id also would rather you guys confirm the sex over the store. Care, feeding, tips appreciated thanks. His name is Goliath so far. P.s- he is about 6to 7 inches in length assuming male that is. Also he is housed in a 75gallon with a c-360 and emperor 300. Only tank mates are 4 clown loaches and a african featherfin cat who all are hiding in driftwood and will not come out. This boy is mean!

I bought some Xtreme fish food the big fella kind. He ate a few of them last night but today I put 4 or 5 pellets in and he sipped them all up from the sand but then spit them out. Not sure what to feed him if he won't eat the pellets as a staple. Help?

Better move those tank mates before they get killed. Your fish is a low grade ZZ Red Dragon, male. If you like this fish, then thats all that matters.

However, if it were up to me, I wouldn't buy this fish at all.
 
Yeah its a old school zhen zhou red dragon. Trimac was one of the fish used to create him. Its a great looking fish nice and healthy but not very good by flowerhorn standards. You shouldn't keep him with the synodontis or clown loaches hes going to kill them when he catches them and they could mess him up internally when that happens. You cant mix him with anything unless you use a divider I would just keep him solo in the 75 for life. Not a good deal for $60 you could have got him for $5 if he was smaller but he looks flawless and healthy.
 
Yea im not a FH enthuse or anything. I actually prefer the look of this guy over what FH experts would grade as good.( More pearls, biggers kok, etc). He has those awesome trimac red eyes. And so far for day one has excellent personality traits. Yea i realize now I am gonna have to give up my 4 year old colony of loaches if I want to keep this guy. Are ZZs just particularly mean?
