What happened to the giant Papryus in the bog?

They weren't looking too good. I think that the water is too clean. They're doing great in my fish pond though. A little richer with fish poop.

plus not living in a place thats warm year round isn't going to make you any better

Man, that water was neon green! Still one of the more amazing projects I've seen on here. It makes me wish I lived somewhere tropical so I could do something similar myself.

This is the Costa Rican national flower. The "Guaria Morada". I just put volcanic rocks in front of the large fountain. I tried to wash them but it still got the water pretty dirty. I'm experimenting with different plants to see if the'll survive in water. So far so good. I also made a bird house this weekend to try and slow down the rotting process of this palm. When we had some big winds last year the branches broke down in the plant and it started rotting down inside the palm. I figured if I prevent so much water falling down in there it should last a little bit longer.

Here's a little savage drama in the other pond today. I caught two male not sure of their species, fighting for rights over a female. These fish are usually pretty neutral. Today they went crazy. I first noticed them because I saw their backs out of the water thrashing around. Then the dominant Guapote would come and settle things down. When he would leave the whole thing would start over again.
You can really see the root growth into the water from a couple of self planted trees growing on the stump I put in the pond.
While all of this was happening the turtle just stayed out of the way. I also noticed a Fiery Billed Aracari up in a tree. It's like a Tucan but smaller. This really made my day.

Stunning ponds, I am amazed by your Guapotes, the species in this post are Astatheros alfari, found also in Costa Rica, I take it then you caught these fish from the wild and added them to your pond? very lucky! also what size is the Guapotes pond? any other species in there bar the oscars, dovii, alfari and bass?

Its an amazing testimony to ones personality, to continue through the obstacles and not give up. It makjes your project even more beautiful. Its awesome...but I think you copied it from my pond in here in Jersey. I really enjoyed reading the thread.
