And sure, bigger is better for every fish, but even the smaller pond that the OP wants would last quite some time, and the larger one would more than likely last the RTC for life.
The tank would only be 24'' tall the rtc would be halfway out of water! Jeez just leave man.TheCanuck;4369714; said:no it wouldn't, your telling a 13 year old kid to put a 5ft cat fish in a 8ft bin. Who has a fruitless opinion? The tank would only be 24'' tall the rtc would be halfway out of water! Jeez just leave man.
OP sorry if i came off as a little rude, but the point was made. Group hug, and the tsn in the 8x8 doesn't sound that bad at all. Be sure you have the cash to support it. He will eventually need deeper water, and it will need to be inside.

I<3fish;4369806; said:Since when have you seen a 60" RTC in captivity? Largest I know of is like 42" and owned by a MFK'er on here. Sure it's still growing, but it's probably almost 10 years old.
Veil-o's;4369852; said:According to that logic it's okay to house the cat in a smaller enclosure because it takes 10 years to get up to size.
You house an animal for life, not until it gets too big for you to handle. If you can't commit to the lifetime of the animal, then why buy it? Just doesn't make sense to get something that you don't have the space/time/effort/money for.
(As a disclosure, I have no cat experience, but I do know what 4' means.)
I<3fish;4370006; said:Well, 10 years is a long time to have a fish, and I'm sure by that time the fish would either be dead or upgraded, and I still think a 4 foot fish would be fine in an 8 FOOT diameter pond.
I don't expect the RTC to stand in the pond, so how can it be half out of the water? Whether fish die in 10 years or not, 10 years is still a long time... Change in hobby, change in life, a lot of change... People better think twice when they mention about keeping fish for "life!"TheCanuck;4370056; said:with only 24" depth? the rtc will be half out of water....
also in 10 years most fish die, just like you updating your tank size and pictures of this make believe 300 gallon you speak of

It's better not keeping fish than, or better, stop arguing about proper tank size, since fish won't grow that big in captive anyway...TheCanuck;4368929; said:They don't get that big because no one properly cares for them... Theres so reason a tsn shouldn't get as big if not bigger with none of natures elements. I hate how everyone has come to terms with justification.
