I just didn't want somebody to mislead you :) If you can have the turtle roam a room during the day (for a diurnal species) and have him "sleep" in a smaller container, that's doable.

If you are not "set" on a terrestrial setup, I would encourage you to put a musk turtle in that 20. They are awesome, personable turtles.

what kinda of filtration would be best for an aquatic setup? and again the 20gallon is only temporary. (keeping an eye on craigslist!)

There are some newer types of filters that behave like "hang on back" filters, but you can actually put them inside the water, which is better for the low level in a turtle tank.

I personally love the miniature submersible canister filters and I use them. (They look like a powerhead with a box on it.)

I don't know anything about it. Never heard of it. If you are talking about a filter, I use FISH tank filters (They serve the same purpose and are cheaper than the ""reptile supplies"")

A kiddie pool is a great idea - a $10 Wal-Mart hard plastic pool - they are like 8 feet across, and I'm sure your daughter would love the ... cartoons on it :)

thanks santoury i thought of it while i watched my friend put his hatchling RES in a kiddie pool...i thought why not my torts with some organic potting soi...

i found mine at Walmart for $14 and its like 5' wide...the lady said thats as big as they came...i think she was lieing but everything is cheaper and bigger on the mainland... good luck let us know what you decide to purchase and post pics... i always like pics...

I have a baby Stinkpot musk turtle right now. They are a great beginner turtle if you can get a hold of one. And it's nice because they don't get much bigger then 4 inches.

In reality stinkpots get to about 5 inches it just takes forever lol They are awesome turtles.

well i am going to go to a few of the pet stores around here tomorrow and see what all they have to offer and try to make a decision this weekend. although i didnt want to do an aquatic setup it seems the best thing for a smaller turtle and i would like to get one for my daughter.
the decor/filtration seems pretty cheap so it wont be that big of a deal to go aquatic.
