These are sometimes refered to as whiptail plecos but are not assigned an L# as far as I know. Decided to post it here since it is part of the loricariid family although most (including myself) just call these whiptail catfish. Mods please lemme know which category these would be most appropriate in (catfish or plecos) since I'll likely want more info down the road:)

That said, here are some pics of a recent PU. I think this is Rineloricaria Parva but there are a few others out there that look VERY same-ish to me, namely R. Beni and R. Fallax.
If anyone knows the difference please tell. Would also like to know if this is a M or F. I can't tell since this is the only one I have. My LFS had four of these and when I went back the next day to get the rest, they were all gone! :wall: :duh:
Hopefully they'll get more.

Awsome fish you have there:headbang2
I dont know my whips though so cant help on ID or sex etc but your in the right place to post it, there the same family of fish I belive.

its rightfully in the pleco section, same identification type as a bristlenose catfish i guess

They have been labeled with L#s. The one pictured looks to be L010, but there are 3 types I believe of L010, a, b, c. As well as a few other numbers.

Nice whiptail, I have never kept one.

Definately in the loricariidae family. I'm a bit surprised that the pleco-fans out there haven't responded with a vengeance. These are realtively common, not too expesive, easy to breed and best of all, not hiders even in light. Am I the only one who loves these active little creatures? For all pleco nuts who have never had a whiptail, you MUST give these a try!

I agree, but which variety??? There is one that is a bright red, and beautiful! I'll try to find a link!

I've had a few "giant whiptails" in the past (sturisoma) and loved those too but they are more difficult to breed from what I've read. I surfed L010 Wildfyre and came up with a few photos (thanx BTW). L010 seems to have a more evenly distributed reticulated pattern on the head than mine but who knows, they are still very similar looking to me. Looks like I'll need to dig deep deep deep to find out the genus of this fish. I went to the same LFS that I got this one at and they had some more!!! I'm not letting them all get away this time.

btw, Ewurm, did you ever get that one fish you had ID-ed? (sold to you as a butterfly pleco I think). I've been seeing those around here sold under the same name. I THINK those are hillstream loaches? Just curious if you ever cracked the mystery.
ANOTHER awsome inexpensive under-rated little weirdo fish IMO.
