Wicked tank :clap

you should drop 20-25 red bellied piranha in their, you could plant it and once your red bellies get big enough you can put hundredes of neon tetra....

or....or....

drop 3 silver arowana's( :asianarow :asianarow :asianarow ) and some stingrays :stingray: :stingray: :stingray: :stingray: :stingray: . It would be beautifl.

Thats a great tank you have there, i would also love to see pics of when it was set up. And hope to see pics of the tank when you are done converting it to a freshwater tank.
I think you should put some really big monster fishes in there like 2-3 Aros, Paroon sharks, red tail gouramt giant, biggo Pleco, dats, temensis... oh yeah add some nice big pieces of driftwood too!

Wow ! have fun with it!!! rays, arowanas, they all sound so good!!! Whatever you choose you cant lose! You lucky dog!! PICS!!!

That's nice...If you don't mind me asking how much did something like that cost and who did all the work......definitely anything you put in there is going to nice to look at..

The tank cost me around 3 to 3.5k about 5 years ago. It was a custom design by me that I had tenecore build me.

As for the sump/filter room and instalation. I did it all my self including the bar underneath it. I also built the entire wall as there use to be a wet bar there we did not use.

Lots of hours there and now I have to put in a few more to get it going again. Just can't seem to ever get started. Too many other things on my plate but I will very soon.

I will put up a lot of pictures of the rebuild including the aquascaping of the tank wtih the pangea background, filter building and refugium/ feeder breeding tank.

It will be fun.

Jeff,
I thought you seemed familiar. I remember following the whole thing on Reef Central years ago! I'm a reef refugee as well. You should really post all the construction pics that were once on your site. Man that brings back memories.

Still undecided as to fish? Knowing your taste for high end reefs, I'd suggest either full blown plant tank or african biotope. A tank filled with big SA cichlids just doesn't do your setup justice. Speaking of which, are you planning on using those big rubbermaid tubs?

Yup, its me. I will try to find all those pics but they may be lost in an old crashed computer. Not sure if I have them any more. I will look.

The tank has sat idle for a while because of a major remodel of my home over the last year and also just have not had the time as my medical practice has really gotten busy. I do so much call right now that even weekend time is very limeted. I have given up racing cars as well. That is why I want something with a lot less maintance. A planted tank in my mind would be just as labor intensive as my old reef. I would love it but just not right now. When my kids are older and hopefully will get into the hobby then they may be able to help with maintance and a planted tank would be more feasable. As far as africans, that is a very good possibility but I have always liked larger fish just for the scale.

I will still be using all the rubbermade tubs and will also set up a fresh water refugium similar to the one I used on my reef. It will serve several purposes.

first will be for nitrate removal. Not sure how effective this will be but want to try anyway.
second is to breed some feeders for the larger fish and to have something else to do in my fish room. I can also grow some fresh plants in there for that planted tank and it will be much easier to maintance out there in the shallow tub rather than in the very deep display. Plants should look cool from overhead also just like the corals do. I will just hang a single metal halide over the tub and that should be plenty.

I will build a large trickle filter and put it in my first tub where the old 4 foot protein skimmer sat.

I hope to start everything once I get back from vacation in a couple of weeks.

I will look for some old pictures. My favorite is one of me diving with a scuba mask down to the bottom placing my leather coral on bottom.

Jeff
