Liam I am very interested in how the Tat and wolf get on. I have two Tats would love to put them in my 8'.

KRSwop1. This will possibly be my third curupira. I am going to try and cohab them in my 8'. It's an interesting point made about the colour. Liams is very Black and was so even when alone before it was picked up. I have one of a similar size that is much pailer in colour. I wonder is it is a sexual difference or a regional difference.

I don't think they're curupira bro. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but I'm fairly sure you have something different/special here.

In regards to wolves and tats, I would definitely not do that. Tats will be snacks and when the wolf is trying to get them down (if the tats bottom jaw goes to the outside of the corner of the wolf's mouth) the teeth will mess up the wolf. Had my old lacerdae eat 3 or 4 of my old tats and his eye got scratched. Healed fine, but with these nice wolves, I wouldn't want to take the chance and have one of their eyes get punctured. Eye wounds are very hard to recover from. I was lucky mine was just a surface scratch.

You can see the different Jaw shapes of the two smaller ones quite well here- there is only a couple of inches difference between them

I think what you're seeing is probably a difference in sex. Females tend to be thicker and more robust than males.

How big were your Tat's VS the wolf? My Tat is 10-11" now and doesn't seem to be bothered by the wolf.

Good to know regarding sexual differences. Any idea if it's possible to differentiate sex amongst Hoperlythrinus?

Oh and 3 nights down, no casualties...!

Hello mate, glad to see things are going well....ive had a bad time, lol

got em all in fine, fed redtail well before til point he had a buldging belly...everything seemed ok, them about 2am all hell broke loose, redtail tried soo hard to eat the chalues, so was seeing what was going down, when he went head on with the ornate and opened his gob, nearly wolfed it straight down, but i tapped glass n he shot off, again and again,so i netted redtail around 3am n placed in the poly box, came in again at 7.30am only to find redtail dead...sooo annoyed with myself..then all quite again until last night, snakehead took a liking to trying to attack the bright red tails of the chalues, all seems ok at present, fingers crossed, the brycrons chasing the chalues every now and again, they seem to be the dither fish of the tank, poor gits, hope it changes otherwise might have to suffle around again, but there great fish all the same,

thanks so much and dude i want you tank n stocking, those wolfs um WOW esp the big black one, amazing,

yeah, iam annoyed with myself fo being lazy, i should have shuffled tanks around, but i thought 4-5hours in a poly would have been ok, seeing some people travel further to collect fish and return with them, fingers crossed with the rest.lol

Tats were about 6-7 inches or so, and the wolf was 11-12 inches. It was a couple years ago, so I'm not 100% sure what sizes they were.

If I remember correctly, male hoperlythrinus have a pinched or dented area in their body by the anal fin. It really looks like someone pinches the body right above the anal fin and made a dent. Females have a regular full looking body.

I had a feelnig it would be something to do with the area around thier anal fin but i couldn't figure anything out specifically.

In that case, I'm pretty srue I've got a small male and a big female though I'm not 100% as i have a feeling the small one could still be indeterminate due to it's size. I'll try and get some pics for comparison.

Oh and 4 nights over, still no casualties...!
