What kind of piranha you will be getting? how many and what tank sizes you planning to put in?

first off, make sure they're legal in your area.

Secondly English would be nice, even though it's not a requirement. ^_~ (kidding)

If you want a group of piranhas, Pygocentrus Natteri (Red Belly), Pygo. Caribe (Caribe) and Pygo. Piraya (Piraya) are your best choice these do best in groups upwards of 5 a 75 gallon tank is required for 3-4 (it's iffy on the fourth) I don't remember if S. Geryi would work as a shoal.

For a single specimen, Those previous species COULD work, but won't be as aggressive or active as a single.

Otherwise, your looking at S. Rhombeus (Black Rhom/Black Piranha/Rhom), Spilopluera (Spilo), and Maculatus (Mac), S. Geryi (Geryi). These guys get some good size on them, and if I remember correctly, Rhoms get the biggest. (someone correct me if I'm wrong)

Oh and I can't forget Sanchezzis. They're a smaller species of piranha. but are still nice-looking fish.

van city BC canada im assuming.. so yeah its legal.
if you're planning to get piranha's just for show then don't get them.
if you're an experience fish keeper(keeping up with water quality) then piranha's are great/unique fish.

don't buy into the hype.

good care = happy/less skittish/agressive piranha
poor care = skittish/stressed/less agressive piranha

WELCOME TO MONSTER FISH KEEPER .
Tell us WHAT DO YOU WANT , Multiple Piranha / Single specimen exc....?
How Big of tank U got ?
What kind of filteration ?
Is all good info to fill us in on so we can help you help us learn . :)

lol@ sushi & the english comment... thanks for that sushi... very informative... basically i'm looking to get 5-6 of the P. Caribe; 5-6 P. Piraya; 5-6 P. Natteri obviously in 3 separate tanks.
vinizuh.. thanks for confirming that about bc... and no im not buying into the hype... i am just fascinated by Piranha.. i actually owned one back in the day with tonnes of tiger oscars but eventually gave them away due to moving reasons. at that point in time i was not really a focused fish keeper. everything i had was basic..nothing fancy... juss a couple tanks, filters, air pumps and that was it. this time around i'm lookin to gain more knowledge and make sure everything is done perfect... that's why i am here. :) my tanks havent been bought as yet though but i am open to suggestions on equipment i need to get... thanks again.... :)

wow, between the piraya and caribe your looking at close to a grand ( i paid 75 for my 5in. piraya) so you need to make sure your commited. Also, why get 3 tanks? the 3 ffish u mentioned are all part of the pygo family so they can shoal together, which in my opinion is better then the 3 species u mentioned in diff. tanks. If i were you i would look into a 180 gallon tank, itll be cheaper then 3 smaller tanks specially if you buy it used. the most fish u could have in there for life, safely would be 9 RBP. but since u want the other species i think i would do 2 caribe, 3 piraya and 2 RB, reason being caribe can get to be 14in piraya can be 16+in. this may even be too many...

as for eqipment i would get 2 canister filters, each designed for 180g tanks cuz they will not be clean eaters, and a power head, other than that the rest is up to you,

^^ You're welcome! BTW, look how smart you sound without the ebonics!! ^_~

Yea, everyone who wants to get a piranha for the hype, should come meet Whiplash....he's very shy.....it's oki though.

It might be easier, or more for display purposes that he wants them seperate. I hear everywhere that Pygos tend to make a big deal out of size (in captivity of course) and those Piraya's and Caribes will be so much bigger than the Natts. (considering my guy will only get 8-10") I would be concerned for the little guys!!

we'll get the usual spiel over and done with. Dim your lights, blackwater (peat, driftwood, or extract) to simulate home waters. Current (since they normally live in a river), over filter, decorate however you want, jhust make sure that they have somewhere to stretch their fins and race around. Temp lower 80's means fast growth, but higher aggression, high 70's means slower growth, but it prevents some of the aggression.

Food wise you're looking at white seafoods (white meated fish shrimp, squid, mussels) cichlid pellets or flakes. This will bring out the red on them.

Light environment=light colored fish, dark colored environment= dark colored fish.

hot pink gravel= razzing and amazement of ruby breasted Red Belly. ^_~ (oh yeah, I so pwn!!)

I'm pretty sure that I missed something....so can someone come fill in my gaps?

big red... big up for d info... thanks....
sushi if u talkin to me bout "ebonics" i actually speak broken english resulting from broken patios.... technically not "ebonics" lol...
buh anyways... that's my ultimate goal... i will start off with 5-6 of the caribes and once they're settled and good to go then i will work on the rest, but yes basically i would prefer to have them by themseleves... again thanks... keep dem comin... :)
