Perfect, I shall get that one. Can I buy the water conditioner anywhere or specifically at a Fish store? So when I change out 25% of the water weekly, is there a chemical I should be adding everytime since it's tap water? Or am I fine to just add the tap water since the other 75% will be regular?

I will have to get something im assuming to vacuum the gravel.

I don't mind at all, im in Oshkosh.

That could depend on the state and/or district. If a contamination issue arises, treating the supply for drinking safety has priority over notifications. My community is on a well, and this has happened several times.... crack in a main line, etc.
First they treat, then they notify- and that is to inform us to boil water or buy bottles for drinking.
I'm glad my water is not treated very often. The taste of it is awful.

Hello; I discussed this with the local water company as well. With water line breaks and other repairs there is often additional treatments as you say, but I was given to understand that the chemicals used to treat the water does not change. For my water supply that would mean adding additional chlorine but would not mean a change to a different chemical. My house happens to be one of the first fed from a main water line and I was told that the stronger chlorine taste I sometimes noted was sometims due to the chlorine dose not having dissipated/spread thru the lines as yet. I still can allow the water to sit for a few days and the water is safe for use in my tanks.

So would it be bad to put it in the tank and let run for a few days without the fish in it?

Hello; Not sure what you are asking. If the it in your question is water, then filling a tank and allowing to sit for a time is common. I always do this with a new tank to make sure the tank does not leak. If the it refers to water treatment chemicals I assume this is also ok, but perhaps a member that uses the stuff will advise.
Another thing to consider before filling a tank is to level the stand well. i try to make a stand with a tank on it as level as i can before filling with water.

I'm sorry, i didn't word that the best. I read up on how to switch out etc. I was more or less leaning that giving this a few days would allow all the chemicals to no longer be harmful. I was thinking i should fill the tank, install filters, heater, etc and then let sit for 3 or 4 days before putting fish in.

Buy the water treatments at fish stores.
If you know your water only has chlorine, no chloramines, you can fill and let your tank to sit. don't start the filters until afterwards. you can cycle the tank afterwards, as chlorine kills the cycling bacteria.
chloramines require removal treatment.

Gotcha, Thank you. I'm learning. Now one of the hardest thing to decide is how to decorate the tank. i see people have gravel, grass, etc. Has anyone every put turf, bouncy balls, anything different like that on the bottom. I'm not really an idiot, just trying to think outside the box. I'm trying to do something totally different and interesting just not sure if people have tried that.

Decoration is as varied as people and fish, LOL! just be sure materials are fish-safe. you can use the "search" feature here.

ya, lately I concentrate on deco objects that help manage the fish's territorial comfort, and accumulate less filth.
I've had it so I love the look but it trapped too much debris. I'm not as high priority about look compared to it working for me and them. I find soft plants and driftwood break it up just enough for my Geos. I like the look of plants, but can't grow them.
I use slate rocks to hide bubble wands and for spawning surfaces.
