Newb looking for some advice.

If you search 'full tank' photos you'll see variety.

Gotcha, Thank you. I'm learning. Now one of the hardest thing to decide is how to decorate the tank. i see people have gravel, grass, etc. Has anyone every put turf, bouncy balls, anything different like that on the bottom. I'm not really an idiot, just trying to think outside the box. I'm trying to do something totally different and interesting just not sure if people have tried that.
it's best to choose deco with consideration to the type of main fish you'll have, due to some habitat & behavioral issues.

well, my 75G project is Geo/ earth-eaters, so they need very fine sand.
Some fish would be easier with different substrate.

First decision is which fish you will have.. Certain in-tank items should be chosen according that, other Deco can be varied. Issues are not really about schoolers, but the eventual "main" species. Confirm which fish you will obtain.

oh boy..I have no clue. I was looking for school fish to start but then i have no clue. I haven't picked that out yet, I've been trying to get some reccomendations. Looking for a decent variety is mainly what i'm looking for.

I know what you mean. there are different types of community fish to choose from.
;-)

I would start with something easy like 4 or 5 nice silver arowanas and a couple of clown knifes.

Kidding. Don't do that.;)

Welcome to the hobby. I hope you find it rewarding. Don't let it seem too complicated. It isn't. It all seems much more simple after a little while.

Hello; If you have a fish shop handy, perhaps a walk thru to see what catches you eye. Try to avoid an impulse buy without some good research. Also be wary of advice from fish store clerks, they are often uninformed and have been known to freely give poor advice. Should you be blessed and find a knowledgeable fish shop operator, then you will be in the gravy.

The internet is very informative about choosing fish. Google 'community fish', grouping lists, and their care profiles.
then get input here too.
practically any fish may be viewed on google images and video/youtube.

Perfect, I shall get that one. Can I buy the water conditioner anywhere or specifically at a Fish store? So when I change out 25% of the water weekly, is there a chemical I should be adding everytime since it's tap water? Or am I fine to just add the tap water since the other 75% will be regular?

I will have to get something im assuming to vacuum the gravel.

I don't mind at all, im in Oshkosh.

Sorry took me abit to respond.. I would suggest talking to Joey at the Petco, not sure who else is still working there ( I use to work at that store ). If your looking for more exotic stuff head to appleton and Just fish has a good selection of exotics usually. Otherwise milwaukee is worth the drive, Hoffer's, Aquatics unlimited, and Best fish are my 3 usual haunts lol. Hoffers has exotics at good prices, their communities are abit overpriced imo, aquatics unlimited is like going to an aquarium ( deffinately worth going to at least once even if your not buying), and has TONS to choose from, and Best fish has the best prices, but smallest selection imo..

and everytime you do a water change the new water going in needs to be treated so buy a big bottle of water conditioner, they last a long time and saves youa few bucks long-term. for gravel vaccuming I would suggest a python set-up, they are worth the investment on that size tank. It'll hook up to your facet for easy maitenence. Chloromines used to treat city water doesnt evaporate so will kill fish in untreated water. THe well water around the area is horrible as well, and should be treated for heavy metals... water conditioners in general treat both of these.
