a green terror and salvini would both work they live with mine. you can also add a firemouth, a very pretty and non aggressive fish

Not at the size these are, plus typically Salvini are more aggressive than regular JD's. GT's and Firemouths are hit or miss, some people have GT's that are total wimps, while others have them that are total monsters. Same with the Firemouth. It's dependent on individual fish, maturity of the fish, etc.

But as far as juvenile EBJD's go, they're better off with non aggressive tank mates such as Mollies, Guppies, Danio's or Tetra's. They wont get chased and stressed out, which will cause problems. Once they're sick, it's hard to get them well when small. I speak from experience, I made that mistake with 2 juvies I had in the past.

going to grow them for 6-9 months before I start to think about adding anythign else. In that time I hope to have teh funds sorted for a new 7x2x2 tank ready to grow them along with some others

well perhaps another update. the LFS is selling there ex display 6x2x2 at a price i couldnt say no too. Soo im going to put a depsoit down tomorow and take delivery at teh end opf the Month.

Only problem is now is i will have 4 EBJD'S in a 180 Gal tank..lol

And that's a problem...?? lol

Well they are going to look lost.. 4 fish at 1" and 10 rainbow tetras..

Need some ideas on what else can live with them or perhaps some other cichlids to grow out at the same time!

I'd say that they need good cover if you're going to put anything else in there with them for now. Or just give them a couple months by themselves.

Try Severums, small clown loaches, geos, etc. Things like that.

Green terrors and salvinis are going to be way too aggressive later on.

Even try a knife if you like (BGK) not clown knife. Those are going to get large fast and potentially eat the EBJDs.

To sum:
severums
geos
black ghost knife
small clown loaches

(IMO, of course...)

I wouldnt put a green terror in with ebjds. Im sure there are some green terrors that would br fine but overall theyre pretty darn aggresive. Ive kept mine with oscars before. You could do that. When my ebjds get big enough their going in with 3 oscars, my clown knife and my bgk. In a 180 gallon

Get Clown Loaches, they're awesome fish to watch. Mine remind me of little dogs buzzing around the tank. But with those, they're prone to ich, I'd quarantine them for a couple weeks or so and as long as there is no signs of ich... then move them to the tank. You can't use salt and there are meds you can't use with them. But they'd be ideal tank mates for the EBJDs combined with the tetras.
