Newbie Question (Paraya, Vampire, armatur)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
thanks guys.

Hopefully someone will crack this 10-12 inch mystery death deal...... I know I failed.... But I've also learned a lot..... Disproving this myth won't be easy but I wouldn't say impossible either. I think it's just the fact of mimicing thier natural enviroment more instaed of forcing them to deal with our water.

Good luck with your new addition Stcky..... and welcome to the addiction I hope you stick with. Payara are a truley impressive fish.

seriously dude? 10" will die no way:eek:

Yes this is true (for the most part)

There is no exact reaason on why?

Most Scombs (like yours) live up to 10". Im sure they will live longer but average death is around 10"

That I can think of there is 4-5 species...

Scomb.....10"
Ralph.......14" (dont quote me on this one thou)
Tats (red Tail)......18"
Armatus............24"+
These should be ball park guesses for home aquaria

and im not sure if the gibbs or gibbus (??) is also a Payara (forget how to spell it but it looks like a scomb with a pushed in nose.)

great infor guys. thanks a bunch.

There's also the Cynopotomus species..... Basically overgrown Charax, or Cynos.

Armatus have already broke 30" in home aquarium.

And as far as Rhaphs.... I see no reason they shouldn't fall into the 2-3 foot category...... Just for some strange reason no one but me keeps them.....lol At least that's the conclusion I see via Google pics.

Thats the species I was thinking of:screwy:.......

And as for Ralphs I had no clue they got so big:WHOA:
Who has a 30"+ Armatus? Trev??

Also there is a Yellow Tail Tat but I have not heard a specific name for it except Tat with a yellow tail

WEST! Ralph is what you do when you drink to much..... And while you may have some floating in your tank I highly doubt it's swimming........let alone a RHAPH!!!!!!

First last and only warning...... 1 more of these lil slip ups and I will be sending you a bag of Ralph!!!!

There's a 30"er over seas..... I think it was Samahrai (sp) H that threw up some pics.

Google search images for Rhaphiodon Vulpinus or just Payara. They fish for them. I actually believe they get almost as big as Armatus.... Just way skinier.

The yellowtails are just color morphs or varients of Tatauaia. (Tatas....LMFAO)
