Plans changed, I picked up a 150 with solid oak stand for $150 yesyterday!!! Wahoo! So now, still the same idea, but I don't have to wait for anything, except I do have to get the water right. I have one canister filter that handles 350 gph and a dual wheel penguin biowheel now. I will have to buy and rinse more black sand.

So I'm going to order the canister filter, meanwhile, same general idea, so do I do the plan on the other thread or ahhhhhhhhhhhhh what? I get a lot of help around my house. My friends stopped by last night and I voiced my plight and they started laughing at me, and said "It's a fish dumba**, who cares is you kill it, you can just buy another one of those too..............."I said I preferred the non fish killing method. Darn I knew it was bad when I had to turn down that black a couple weeks ago...........:WHOA:

Hi, sorry didn't post in the other thread..but seems like your dilemma is straight forward.

This is what I did with a friend few years back, when he upgraded from a 125 to a 240. Mind you, his setup was a saltwater, but it should be the same in principle.

We bought 9- 35g Sterilite containers, filled 4 with the water, 2-his fishes, 2 with his live rock and the last one had his crushed coral. All the containers were put within distance of the old tank, but with enough room to move the old tank out. So now that the tank was 98% empty, we moved it out of the way, of course disconnecting the w/d system and what not.

With the old out of the way, in came the new 240g. We re-connected the W/D, put the CC back in with some new CC, placed the live rocks as he saw fit. Starting to fill the tank back up with the first 4 bins of water, which came out to approx. 105g. The 3 days before he had already mixed up a new batch of SW about 100g in two 50g plastic garbage cans. So we wheeled those in and pumped it into the 240g.

Cranked the w/d back on (we actually had it on the whole time while moving the tanks, with the return going back into the inlet).
Added back his fishes and voila...tank is back up and running with minimal disturbance to the BB and the fishes.

The whole process took us about 2 hours or so, and we had total of 5 guys. The last time I visited him over the holidays, all his fishes are still alive and kicking with some new additions.

So assuming that it was SW, and the species are more delicate, this process should work out well for your aro.

The only drawback was, he's stuck with 9 35g bins.

pretty much sounds like the way to go. It ends up that I'm putting the new tank along a different wall, same room, that'll be even easier, I can set up the new one and start getting things going.

I am ordering another canister filter. I need 75% more sand. So this I need to prerinse, and dump in the tank when it's time.

I was only worried about adding 100 gallons of fresh water and the cycling, but I'll have my old canister filer and current dual biowheel. I plan on a 25% media swap to add 25% active bacteria from my current filter, and putting the excess back into my current/old filter.

The sustrate will transfer at 25-30% currently established.

I have 2 heaters, one for each end.

No tops yet. Going to order custom split 1/4" for the top, with a hinger opening with room for feeding and getting a hand in. For serious work, I can lift out a glass panel.

Then I was going to use by 48" light along with 24" for now, until I can afford nice tops.

So moving day will be all at once, but the new water will be in the new tank with new sand then I'll transfr fishy and all his current media and water. Fish last, he can hang for an hour or so in a tote just fine.

Am I overlooking anything?????

Sounds like you got in under control. :)

Hmmm..so why not keep both tanks running? :grinno:

'cause my boyfriend SOLD my 55 without talking to me and I'm really not happy, it's a beautiful setup, just small for the Aro. I'm a bit irked about that one! A Whole lot irked. Really super IRKED! OK I'm over it, not.

Yeah that sucks. Well, now that you have room, you can get a BIGGER tank! :naughty:

I agree! Getting rid of that 55 will free up a wall for the 300 you will eventually want...

:headbang2

You make a good point but miss the fact that I could have had the 55 at the foot of the bed with fish other than Aro's, really pretty to watch and fall asleep to, say to about 5 beautiful huge angelish and so on........ahhhhhh now you guys have gone and did it again, I'm back to IRKED! And the guy he "gave" my entire setup to is a really nice guy and I can't go and be mean to him. Drat.

I am really excited though, now I am thinking about tankmates. Ahhh so many choices. I'd prefer a few pretty fish big enough that my Aro won't eat (his best friend is a 2-3" clown loach)(Aro is 11.5"), I don't want another large, aggressive fish in there, I'm going more Zen. Ideas? I'm at a school of large angelfish right now. Considered silver dollars but I was told something bad about them and I forgot what it is! :feedback: :nutkick:
Wow, the second smilie made me feel much better!
