The National Felon League has now gone political in another area;the 49ers has pledged to donate half a million dollars towards gun control legislation.

Hello; If only we could count on karma to kick in. The 49's deserve a double dose of bad karma.

Saw an article this morning pretty much citing a poll which divides us into political and racial groups in terms of who think the flag protests are bad (includes me) and those who thing the protests are OK. ( not me). For fear these "touchy" subjects are not to be discussed on the forum I will leave it at that.

I do not talk to many face to face on this so my personal "poll" is limited. Here in flyover country all but one of the folks I have asked about the flag protest have been on the "flag protests are bad" side, over 90%.
Today I talked to one fellow at McKays used CD's, Books and Movies while we were digging thru the used CD's. He said he liked the NFL football too much to give it up. He stated he was not too happy about the protests but since he is not military it did not bother him enough to stop going to the games. He goes to the Titan games.
When I called him "one of the traitors" in a good natured kind of way he took it well. Said he has a older relative who fought in Nam and has quit the NFL.
Remarkable.

I'm going to play "Devil's Advocate" My brother as I hear this quite often. "The National Felony League, etc. "

I'm 100% a data guy and a pragmatist. Analyzation of statistical trends and interpreting data and information is how I make my living.

The truth is the arrest rate of males in the general population in the USA from 2000-2013 was nearly two times higher than members of the NFL during this same time period (1). Now there were 6 of these 13 years where the NFL had higher violent crime rates than the general public. But 7 of these 13 years, they had a lower violent crime rate comprising the majority of years. All years showed NFL having lower overall crime rates than the general public.

The question I ask is how have we become victim of this false information or as our president puts it "fake news?" We have accepted this as fact and actively spread the misinformation. I used the same NFL joke for years until I took the time to research. The data shows that NFL players are arrested with less frequency than all males in the USA aged 20-39 over a recent 13 year time period. So why do we label NFL athletes "felons and thugs" when they are less likely to commit crimes than the average American man?

I don't take the term seriously but a lot them do act like a bunch of thugs. They certainly sound like it when I listen to some of their downright cringe inducing interviews. Some of them speak as if they didn't spend a day in college. It's great that they actually have a low number of arrests. That is the way it should be.

Hello; I think it is because of the celebrity status of the players. The names make news and so are broadcast much more than the average American.
Here in Tennessee there were several arrests of players for the Vols. Knoxville and UT are about 50 -60 miles away and the local news cover the teams beyond all reason. Those arrests were lead stories for a good while and the stories were followed to the bitter end. The hundreds of other folks arrested mostly got little coverage unless it was a gruesome crime.

This just keeps escalating because of "both sides" as our president likes to say.

Speaking of numbers and statistics, there have been well over 600 arrests of NFL players since the year 2000.The league mvp's in this regard are..
Vikings-42 arrests
Bengals 40
Denver 36
Tennessee 33
I'm no statitician but that seems like an awful lot of arrests for a group of well educated and well paid people.
I have been working at my current job for over fifteen years and I can count on one hand how many employees have been arrested.

600 arrests since the year 2000, it's like 3 arrests a month. Yes, that seems like an awful lot! Btw, how many employees does your current job have?

There's a few hundred of us,a little over three hundred.

You don't even know how many employees your current job has, is it safe to say you don't know how many have been arrested? Does you job keep tab and post every arrest, even when it happens on the employee's time?
