Nicest pup yet?

Al i have to agree well said ..Acouple more things to think about if you will can you make money in general Breeding for the Hobby ???? Probably not if your lucky you break even more lucky you make a couple extra bucks here and there and ya can buy your self another tank or two to further your pleasure Buddy i hate to read this and seemingly so down it's a hobby treat is that and maybe a little more pleasure can be had ..And believe me sometimes i need to slow down myself take a step back and say to myself hey man this is just a hobby LOL!!!!

I understand it's just a hobby.... I do it for the love of it and nothing else. I never set out to make money. I just wanted to breed some quality Marbles as it seemed put near impossible to find nice ones that stay nice. I threw cost out the window. I wanted the nicest I could find. I payed to play. But who would have known that afer spending just shy of $2500 for a pair of Marbles that the pups would be worth no more then pups from a $600 pair? Find me a black ray breeder that's selling pups at 20% the cost of one parent...... lol. My heart's always been in the right place. Just ask anyone I've dealt with, I've sold my nicest male on more then 1 occasion to another hobbyist for the simple fact that they had a nicer female for that male then I had. Always keeping an eye on the quality of the big picture. I just get so frustrated with Marbles cause nice ones cost 4 digits to me, I sell them for half or less then half that and the pups from the nicest parents I could find sell for the same as something that looks like a plain ol Motoro. They're simply worth more to me then anyone else. So rather then absorb all this myself I've been slowly selling off most of my Marbles to other people that feel the same as I do about the value and quality of these animals.

Bottom line is I would pay more for a pup then anyone else so why sell them? Do you really think I could be bitter about the hobby when I'm surrounding myself with some of the most beautiful little flatfish I could find and they're reproducing making even nicer cute lil flatfish. I'm happy to be in the hobby for the right reasons, that's all.... :)

And Richard, that is a fabulous plan. I couldn't agree more with you on it being in my blood. Has been from day one. I love brown rays and can't wait to see what the future holds..... I hope to see brown rays swimming in my tank by the end of the year that I honestly thought I wouldn't get to see in the flesh before I die (Falkneri). Pair that with the anticipation of lil lil Bill becoming a father and my only headache left will be aquiring Boesemani.

Well very good to hear you seem to be so passionate would hate to see you heading for the (Burnout ) that seems to follow sometimes after something tragic ,devistating like what happened .....

Yes Hulon i agree, great to hear Alan sounding so possitive,he did have a serious knock back but hey he's come back stronger, this is what generally happens with real hobbyists.Anyway these things are all in the past now and needs leaving there so we can move onto better things,we have all suffered similar tragedies at some stage,i know i have.
Alan you and i are from the same pod,we must have been separated at birth lol !! i don't hear of many people in this hobby striving to own both Falkneri or Boesemani but i for one would love either of these species.
Take care.

Darkest one is very nice.

Very nice pups Al!

I believe I removed the male too soon from the girls as I do not think he got the job done this time. My females are in my display tank and we have a big new year's party every year. The male will go back in after this...I want the girls looking nice and not chewed up for the party. I need to get some new pics up of the pair I got from you, the female is getting back her amazing pattern since she is no longer in a pond and the male, well we all know he is one of the nicest marble males I have ever seen and glad I pryed him from you :) Just more proof of the quality of pups he aids in producing.

Us marble nuts here in the US need to stick together :)

Thank you sir!!!

Knowing when to move the males is very tricky that's for sure. Either use a lil male to minimize damage to females, yet risk him not getting the job done or use a big ol experienced stud and he might mess them up overnight. I really haven't found a successfull way to pull this off. Worst thing is it's hard for there to be competition amongst a couple males in the same tank and still be able to keep tabs on who's the daddy. :(

I knew that female would bounce right back. Her pattern wasn't in near as bad of shape as some of the others I've seen brought back. She may not look all that great next to lil juvies but I assure you that it would be VERY difficult to find a 15"+ ray of similar quality. They all seem to go downhill after they get big, unless they are across seas. I'm not sure if it was even the pond that made her less appealing, it may have been all the stress from the big ogre girl here topping her and pinning her all the time. She's fine with smaller rays but any females that start getting up there in comparable size to her triggers something and she starts bullying.

I recently had to move the female I offered you (that was paired with your male) for the same reason....... I was hoping you'd reunite her with that male but she's safe at a buddies place now paired with the nicest male pup JimR produced.

We definetly need to stick together cause I can assure you it doesn't take much for our limited genepool to get crossed up. We need to keep track of heritage very closely so we can insure years of successfull captive breeding. Me and my buddy here in IA are constantly moving rays around and it would be great to get a few other breeders on board.
