Nifurpirinol = Ray safe?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maracyn is a broad spectrum antibiotic.
Its dose is (1) one tablet per ten gallons repeated every (24) twenty-four hours for (5) five days.
Recommends that you treat for the entire five days even if signs disappear.

Also you might need to remove the activated carbon.

One box contains (24) tablets.

The largest of the 4 has the rot on her back fins, just as CSX described. It is not horrible, it is barely noticeable, but I want to nip this quick before it gets worse.

maybe some hardcore salt at first...

If it was me I'd be safe and get the Binox ordered... If it's needed asap have them overnight it.

maracyn and maracyn2 are just as safe in combo....

Nic - what is the dosing on that stuff? how much do I need to buy? I can't find the info on how many gallons a 24 pack will treat... info on the dosing regiment will be very helpful so I know how much to order.

Not doubting this at all.

I just know it costs under $20 to carry out FULL dosage (2 treatments) of Binox for 1500 gallons.

Do the math and tell me how much it costs to do a FULL treatment of Maracyn/Maracyn 2 on a 300 gallon tank.

The stuff is what? $20 a box? 2 boxes per day for 5 days. I'll tell you how much it is....... Rediculous. Even if you move them to a qt tank you're still going to spend an arm and a leg. Much more than having Binox next dayed.

can you not just treat with one of the other? maracyn and maracyn2? i thought it was either or...

combo is best covers all areas of gram neg and gram pos bacteria and a few other problems as well

well all depends on where you buy it... i was buying from thatfishplace.com 100 tablet bottles for 30$ now i have a bulk order and im buying the powder in large Q for pretty cheap... if you really shop around you can find it for cheap.... also i said i dose every 3 days not once a day... and believe me with multiple meds i know how much it costs to dose 300 gallons of water :irked:..... this is where that 40 breeder is a very wise investment

I understand your point Nic and I respect your opinion.

I was talking "Under the gun go to your LFS and buy" pricing. The kind of shopping you do when you don't have time to shop around.

40 breeders are great..... For Juvies. If you have adults and do NOT have the room then QT isn't really an option, except for dropping the waterlevel in your pond/monstertank.

i wont argue that... there are other forms that are cheaper...dont have to buy mardels version...stuff has a long shelf life so its worth while to keep it on hand

ive put 12" rays in 40 breeders for Q... if anything large rubbermaid containers can be purchased and used in a pinch... you never have to dose a large amount of water...there are ways around it even in a pinch...

90 degree water, 4 pounds of salt per hundred gallons. This worked for mine as per Mikes reccomendations.

I think Meds are scary for rays whatever they are.
