Nifurpirinol = Ray safe?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am going to do the salt first, for probably 2 days. I will have pure nitroflurazone tomorrow, next day from Jehmco in NJ (naturally next day b/c of tri-state area). I ordered 300 mg, maybe about $30, I can buy wholesale from them, so not sure what reg price is. Nitroflurazone is what is in the recommended Binox. I am going to treat the whole system because it is bacteria and likely any/all the rays have it or will sometime. Nitroflurazone targets gram negative bacterium only. It will effect my nitrifying bacteria so I will be doing daily w/c's. Apparently it is easily absorbed by fish and will help combat any systemic infections as well.

I have been using Binox for the last 4 days for an apparent eye fungus
on one of my pups. It has worked very well. But according to Richard Ross
in the Aqualog book Freshwater Stingrays, the Nitrofurazone does not affect
the Biological Bacteria.
I monitored my water several times a day over this period and found no
increase in Ammonia or Nitrites. I did my WC on the 3rd day of treatment.

That sounds pretty expensive for 300mg. Is that because of shipping?
And I don't think that'll be enough since you'll be wanting 250mg per 25 gallons and you may want enough for 2 treatments.
