Key is to keep a light on above the worm container. Then no worms leave the container and stay in the soil. This is what I do with my setup

Thanks Guys,
I am going to try out the european as the temp range tolerance is appealing.
Just found this sight http://www.europeannightcrawlers.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=6 500 for 39.95 free shipping to nj....
I will update once they arrive.
In regards to Red wigglers. Not enough meet on the bones for the rays...lol
I think you'll like the size of those, and great find on the price.
I'm curious to know where they ship from, so let us know when you get them. The shipping description sounds exactly like the box I get from NY worms. Maybe they come from the same wholesaler?
As long as its a little moist in the cup that you plan on keeping your night crawlers in no refrigeration is needed. In fact, all I do is spray one spray of water mist on groups of 2 dozen and they last well over a month in my finished basement in a shaded cabinet.

Put a light on over the worms at night- they won't surface or escape. Then you won't have to worry about an airtight lid.
I get them in 1k boxes from knutsons worms for about 120 shipped to my doorstep. A little expensive but they are good quality and i havent been able to find anyone better near me. I just cut the top of the box off and throw them in the fridge. I got through 1k about every 4 weeks so not alot of time for them to go bad
