Of all places,some of the Asian grocery markets here often have live ones for sale.Apparently they are a good tasting fish and I've been tempted to rescue one on more than one occasion......I don't know if it can be done but I have old footage of my first nile from years ago on a VHS tape and I'd show it here if I could.I got it back around 95 or 97 when I was into African cichlids.It exclusively ate cichlid pellets just like they did and I was able to get it to about a foot in length.It was actually the show piece in the community tank as it received the most attention from visitors.It was peaceful and never bothered any of the other fish but did seem to always be on a patrol as it constantly would slowly move around the tank and going in and out of the rock formations.

Any idea of what type of nile perch your getting? Hopefully you get a what they call a royal nile perch. Growth rate on the royals are about an inch per month for the first year then they slow down to about half that rate.
