Hey guys my 180gl nitrate is at 80ppm. Ph is 8.4, Ammonia is 0, and nitrite is 0. I did water change for a week 15% at a time and is still at 80ppm. I took my water to a lfs and they got the same 80ppm. Does anyone had this problem before? I use PURPLEUP formy LR. Do you guys think that have something to do with it. My 180gl is a fish FWLR tank. I know someone could help me with this. Thanks

just keep doing waterchanges until the nitrates go down. what's your stocklist in the tank?

I have a lion, 2 grouper and two eels in there. Before i start to do WC. It was at 80ppm. After a week of WC, its still there??????:nilly:

Whats the Nitrate level of your tap water?

Some people have crazy high readings out of the tap, and that makes it hard to keep the levels down in a tank.
If your tap water has high nitrates you may want to think about getting a RO filter.
If your tap water is OK, then just keep on changing the water, bigger changes if you have to, and it will come down.

Cheers

Ian

I use Purple Up, no nitrate problem here. Maybe a tap water problem? I use RO water for water changes.

Test your tap water with the nitrate tester to see if your tap water might be that high. IF so you will probably have to get the nitrate remover.

You'll have to do much larger weekly water changes, unless you add a fuge to your tank. A deep sand bed helps too. I had a 55g w/the same nitrate as yours & I had to do 50% weekly WC to keep it at acceptable levels (~20). Now that I upgraded to my 90 & added a DSB & fuge, my nitrate is around 5 or less. What kind of skimmer are you running?

Thank you guys, I dont know about my tap water, but I will check it when I get off work. I only do 15% WC each day because thats what the lfs said to do. I checked this morning and again it was still at 80ppm. I use two Seaclone 150 on each side of the tank.

Seaclowns are garbage. Get yourself a good skimmer. Don't go by what your LFS says, go by what your test says.

Starting with checking your tap water is a good palce to start, as mentioned. However, its no point bashing teh water changes untill you have found the source of the nitrate problem. Do you run cannister filters? if so, how often do you clean or replace the media??

I would certainly not be doing 15% water changes everyday, this will put undue stress on the inhabitants. Once you have found the source of the nitrate issue, go to something more accetable like 10% per week..
